Children are creative. The Museum of Glass (MOG) in Tacoma, Washington, encourages this creativity with an innovate glass art project. Kids Design Glass pays tribute to the imagination of children by showcasing glass sculptures designed by children under 12 years of age and crafted by MOG’s Hot Shop Team. Shown below are some examples.
Bacon Boy
Designed by Austin Winters (age 10) and made in 2008 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits. According to Austin:
“Bacon Boy is one half of an ongoing battle with ‘Fry Guy’ who is ‘Bacon Boy’s’ arch nemesis and is a frying pan. Their never ending battle on earth is also taking place in heaven with the grandfathers of both of these characters.”
Pip
Designed by Cameron Day (age 8) and made in 2007 by American artists Nancy Callan (1964- ) and Deborah Czeresko (1961- ) with the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits. According to Cameron:
“Pip is a baby monster that loves to smile and laugh even though he’s little and cute he gives a big cry. Also Pip loves food especially bananas. He will eat any speck of food in sight.”
Neon Green One Eyed Cyclops Pickle
Designed by Jacob Schauer (age 12) and made in 2011 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown glass with applied bits.
Cyborg 652
Designed by Karl Berner (age 9) and made in 2009 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits. According to Karl:
“The eyes can sea [sic] through walls. It can move to speeds up to 1,000 mph. the scales protect it. It’s top eye can also shoot a laser.”
Orca Whale Singing Sensation
Designed by Erin Le (age 9) and made in 2013 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Solid blown and hot-sculped glass with applied bits.
Bownsy Bot
Designed by Conner Knoth (age 7) and made in 2009 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits. According to Conner:
“It has only one Leg and a rapid fire freiz ray that is used to freiz fire than a Laser Beaim Brakeing the ice then there is nothing left.”
Angel/Deomn Triceratops That Loves Candycanes
Designed by James Drabik (age 6) and made in 2016 by Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits.
Bridge of Glass Car
Designed by Henry Johnson (age 10) and made in 2015 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits.
Big Ears
Designed by Polina Povovoznyuk (age 9) and made in 2015 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits. According to Polina:
“He is half see through half stripes. Cause of his big cat ears he may locate almost anything he is more of a silly creature than monster.”
Snake on a Pole
Designed by Zach Thompson (age 11) and in 2010 by American artist James Mongram (1968- ) and the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits.
AFU (or) Hungry Ghost
Designed by Oliver Bonjour (age 10) and made in 2015 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits. According to Oliver:
“the ghost is basically Just hungry. Yeah. And the AFU is an Experiment of Adam and Ollie inc. that is a protector guy Who has 2 diffrents: latch-onto-head function and trsformation. That explains the back Pack.”
Hedgehot
Designed by Garrett Foster (age 9) and made in 2007 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits.
Corn Dog
Designed by Christina Wentworth (age 11) and made in 2014 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits. According to Christina:
“This corn dog makes more sense than a breaded hot dog. Farmers plant this type of corn to bark at the crows and scare them away from the fields.”
Floating Down The River
Designed by Crystal Zhong (age 10) and made in 2009 by the MOG Hot Shop Team. Blown and hot-sculpted glass with applied bits.
