From a Cleveland.com story “
“COLUMBUS, Ohio -- U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney, a Wyoming Republican ousted from office this year after voting to impeach ex-President Donald Trump, endorsed Democratic U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan in Ohio’s U.S. Senate race at the City Club of Cleveland on Tuesday.
“Cheney said during an appearance at Cleveland State University that Republicans should reject Vance and other candidates who echo Trump’s false claims about the 2020 election, which have been rejected by dozens of courts, top officials in Trump’s own Homeland Security and Justice departments, some Trump family members and former campaign officials, and some top Republicans, including retiring Sen. Rob Portman, who has endorsed Vance.”
J.D. Vance, Ryan’s opponent, responded by touting his endorsement by Tulsi Gabbard:
(So, if you don’t want to support Ryan because he’s running a campaign that’s a little conservative for you, support him because his opponent just got endorsed by the Putin-loving Democratic turncoat, Tulsi Gabbard—and then bragged about it.)
Tim Ryan also went on Alex Wagner’s Show on MSNBC to discuss why he went on Fox News last night, even though there was a lot of hostile feedback....(and some .positive feedback and applause as well: (See Wonder6789’s comment and video link in the comments below). “I went on Fox News because you gotta go in the lion’s den to even be able to access those other people.” Ryan also told the Fox audience, who sometimes loudly disagreed with Ryan, that he’s not afraid of legitimate criticism. Ryan’s response to the raucous audience? He said, “I’m happy to have this conversation. I’m not afraid to have this conversation. These are the conversations we need to have in this country. I welcome you guys. Let’s just be respectful, but I’m not afraid to stand here and defend my position.”
Ryan’s doing what it seems Democrats all over the country need to be doing--going on Right Wing media and standing up to the lies and misrepresentations and letting Fox-viewing Republicans and Independents know what Ryan’s and the government’s policies are doing for them….and what politician’s are going to do to get cash into the pockets of the working poor who desperately need some help in the face of inflation.
Here’s his latest ad. Tim Ryan: Ohio Needs an Ass-Kicker, not and Ass Kisser
In spite of this great showing, Ryan is not getting support from the Senate Majority PAC, which has spent no money on the Ryan campaign, while spending $15 and $17 Million on races in North Carolina and Wisconsin. This has made the last month particularly difficult for Ryan to compete, since Mitch McConnell’s PAC has dumpe $30 million into Ohio on J.D. Vance’s behalf.
[Note} The following is from an earlier story I wrote about Tim Ryan.
Tim Ryan is running a remarkably effective campaign in Ohio and needs the help of Daily Kos. AND, IMO, he’s offering a good part of the right message for this year and for years to come for Democrats: Let’s take care of all workers, rural and urban, and of all races, political perspectives, creeds, avocations and persuasions--and make sure that labor is considered first and that the heartland does not rot while the cities grow stronger.
Here is a summary of Ryan’s position from a recent Pro Publica article:
“We have to love each other, we have to care about each other, we have to see the best in each other, we have to forgive each other,” he declared when he won the Democratic Senate primary in May.
He isn’t just preaching kindness and forgiveness. For years, he has warned his fellow Democrats that their embrace of free trade and globalization would cost them districts like the one he represents in the Mahoning River Valley — and lobbied them to prioritize domestic manufacturing, which, he argued, could repair some of the damage.”
….
….”Ryan is running close enough in the [Ohio] polls that a political action committee aligned with Mitch McConnell, the Republican Senate leader, has had to commit $28 million to keep the seat (now held by Rob Portman, who is retiring), and [Republican J.D.] Vance has had to ratchet up his rhetorical attacks....”
After years of being overlooked, Tim Ryan is pointing his party toward a path to recovery in the Midwest. On the campaign trail, he has embraced a unifying tone that stands out from the crassness and divisiveness that Trump and his imitators have wrought. A significant number of what he calls the “exhausted majority” of voters have responded gratefully.” Source Pro Publica and republished in Raw Story.
Time to throw a great candidate (and a meditator and general good guy) a few bucks!
