DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition - Journey from Sketch to Screen was a special exhibit at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture (MAC) in Spokane, Washington.
According to MAC:
“From the makers of Shrek, Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon and Trolls, comes an extraordinary exhibition celebrating over 25 years of DreamWorks Animation.”
One of the displays in this special exhibit was Trolls. The first troll doll was handcarved by Thomas Dam for his daughter in the late 1950s in Denmark. The DreamWorks filmmakers sought to create a balance between celebrating the charm and oddities of the beloved original and invigorating it with contemporary appeal. According to the display:
“Their aim was to create a tactile and layered experience using computer-generated imagery (CGI) to reflect the chunky wood, lambswool hair and felted clothing of the 1950s original. The artists explored different ways to incorporate fabric, fibre and felt into the overall production design.”
