Indictment/Arraignment/Setting Trial Dates Season remains officially open. We had a good summary of the cases yesterday. Indictment, screaming, surrender watch, screaming, arraignment, screaming, trial, screaming, sentencing, screaming. Lather, rinse, repeat. Whatever they scream about loudest, do more of.
Good News
It turns out, as always, that
- Wrong-Wing overreach is our best weapon in this election cycle.
- They are still driving out millions of their own children every year, and now they are going after their own women and elders.
- As hpg and others constantly remind us, our prospects in 2024 are excellent. (Remember, repetition is good. I repeat, repetition is good.)
- We are beating back voter suppression in the courts and through GOTV.
- Marc Elias, the ACLU, the NAACP LDF, and others are on top of the states asserting a right to overturn Presidential elections and name their own electors.
- The DOJ has plans to arrest another thousand election terrorists.
- The FBI posts pictures of rioters they want to arrest on X every day.
- Dems are getting our messages out.
- Our own Goodie is organizing a five-days-a-week Diary series on the accomplishments of Dark Brandon, and others among us have volunteered to help.
- Rs are no longer in disarray—It’s total chaos and fog of internal civil war now.
And there’s plenty more where that came from.

Climate Brief: 'US coal use drops to levels last seen in 1903'(but we have to keep pushing)
We have record oil and gas production in the US right now, but coal is down by more than they are up. We are just about at Peak Carbon worldwide, when all three will go into terminal decline from their highest point ever, while we plant more trees, cut methane leaks down to nearly nothing, and so on. See my Renewable Tuesday Diaries for the latest each week. We know what to do, even though most of us don’t know that, much less how much we are actually doing. But the vast majority want it done.

Repellent Republicans Rushing to Ruin
Liars and Cheaters and Thieves, Oh My
That part hasn’t changed at all for years, except that nearly all of them now belong to the various factions of only one party. But that’s all bad news, and we can simply concentrate on throwing the entire Party of Rascality out. Or to a large extent, allowing them to throw themselves under the electric bus.

Bad News for Them from DK
ICYMI: McCarthy taps out
IOW, he is quitting at the end of this month and not going to serve out his term, or run in 2024. That leaves House Republicans with a nominal 3-vote majority.
From Kevin O's Deli to ex-House speaker: The rise and fall of Kevin McCarthy
There's no question that the GOP will hold onto California's 20th Congressional District, a constituency in the Bakersfield and Fresno areas that supported Donald Trump 61-36 in 2020. However, a new vacancy could still make life tougher for new Speaker Mike Johnson by narrowing his majority. And McCarthy's seat could remain unfilled for some time: Axios reported last week that Republicans already fear that Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom could delay, or even decide not to call, a special election to succeed the former speaker.
"Pretty soon we won't be able to have two Republicans in the same car," an unnamed House Republican snarked to Axios after McCarthy, who insisted two months ago that he wouldn't resign, said he would indeed quit.
Why Kevin McCarthy's departure could bring the House GOP one step closer to chaos
Another Republican, Ohio Rep. Bill Johnson, also has a resignation in the works. He's been vague about his timeline, but we know his departure can't take place any later than March 15, since he's set to start a new job as president of a university on that day. That would leave Republicans with just 219 members—and that's where things get really interesting.
Since Democrats would have 213 in their caucus at this point, Johnson could have at most two deserters on floor votes. Should just three Republicans switch sides, then we're at a 216-all tie—and you know exactly what that means.
It means that whatever they are voting on doesn’t pass.
Chris Hayes noted last night that McCarthy is the last of the once-vaunted Young Guns, making him for a time the Lone Gunman in the GQP, apart from all of the mass murderers out there driving GenZ ferociously to our side. (Yes, I have been thinking about the X-Files spin-off, The Lone Gunmen. You have to admit that Hakeem Jeffries’s kung-fu is currently the best.)
Wisconsin Fake Electors Admit To Trying To Steal The Election
Wisconsin GOP fake electors evade prosecution in a “possible steal” that sought to install dictator
Unlike the criminals in the GA RICO case, Wisconsin fake electors evaded criminal prosecution by admitting something a few GOP legislators still cannot do, admit that @POTUS won the 2020 election.
MADISON, Wis. — In a legal settlement Wednesday, the 10 Republicans who signed official-looking paperwork falsely purporting Donald Trump won Wisconsin in 2020 have agreed to withdraw their inaccurate filings, acknowledge Joe Biden won the presidency and not serve as presidential electors in 2024 or in any election where Trump is on the ballot.
Wednesday’s civil settlement marks the first time pro-Trump electors have agreed to revoke their false filings and not repeat their actions in the next presidential election. It comes as Republicans in two other states face criminal charges for falsely claiming to be presidential electors, and investigations are underway in three additional states.
Nevada AG charged 6 fake electors.
Justice Samuel Alito isolated in tax case he refused to recuse from
The Supreme Court heard what could be a radical challenge to the nation’s tax laws Tuesday, with the majority of justices—including most of the conservatives—seemingly looking for a way to rule as narrowly as possible, demonstrating restraint at a time the court is facing unprecedented scrutiny and unpopularity.
This particular case received heightened attention thanks to Justice Samuel Alito and his refusal to recuse from it, even though Alito previously granted a long softball interview in The Wall Street Journal to one of the lawyers who brought the case, David Rivkin. The WSJ article was a grievance-fest for Alito in which he declared that both he and the court are above the law.

Tommy Tuberville raises the white flag of surrender
The Senate can finally confirm the promotions of hundreds of senior military officers that have been held up for 10 months by Alabama Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville. He announced Tuesday that he was finally dropping his hold on most promotions after weeks of pressure from fellow Republicans.
“I’m releasing everybody,” Tuberville told reporters, then immediately contradicted himself. “I still got a hold on I think 11 four-star generals. Everybody else is completely released from me. But other than that, it’s over.” There’s a sign of how serious a lawmaker he is: He doesn't even know how many people are affected by his actions. In fact, as of Dec. 1, there were 445 senior military officers whose careers had been taken hostage by the senator, and there are indeed 11 four-star posts he is still blocking.
Senate leadership has demonstrated how to advance those 11 en bloc. Watch this space.
