Lockheed’s PV-2 Harpoon is an outgrowth of the U.S. Navy’s patrol bomber program. The PV-2 first flew in 1943 and by March 1944 500 were delivered and saw action in the Pacific Theater. In 1948 all existing aircraft were transferred to Naval reserve units. The PV-2 Harpoon in the Erickson Aircraft Collection in Madras, Oregon was the first D model built out of a production of 35 and was retired in 1956. The Museum’s PV-2 is one of only a few survivors still flying.
