With
49 percent of the vote, you demanded payback for Allen West. Well, you got it.
How do you even begin to describe Rep. Allen West and just why he's so deserving of this? From his rampant misogyny, flights of dangerous international fantasy, extreme paranoia, boorishness, and brutishness, to his rampant stupidity, West gives Michele Bachmann, Joe Walsh, Todd Akin and Steve King combined a run for their money. This is one guy it's impossible to be hyperbolic about. Seriously, how can you possibly match the outrageousness? There just aren't enough words.
There were actually two specific things West did this week (well, there are probably dozens, but we don't have all night here) to deserve the title of worst politician of the week. First, he ran this ad, which tells Florida that Patrick Murphy personally was responsible for cutting Medicare by $700 billion. Check out the screen and the narration starting at the 14-second mark:
Wow, Patrick Murphy cut $700 billion from Medicare! That is quite the feat, considering he's not even in Congress yet. But what makes it even more special,
it's the same goddamned cuts West
did vote for, in the Paul Ryan budget. And when he cast that vote, he said: "Anyone challenging me on my support to this visionary plan to restore our economic security will be signing up for a suicide mission." Come and get us, tough guy.
Then there's the mailer that West is blanketing FL-18 with, accusing Murphy of receiving support from terrorists who want to destroy Israel. Here's what it says about Murphy, in part:
At a time when there's so much danger and uncertainty in the Middle East, we need leaders who will stand up for Israel. Unfortunately, there are some in America who are weakening that commitment, and they support Patrick Murphy.
President Obama, who hasn't visited Israel once during his entire term in office, supports Patrick Murphy. An anti-Israel group that received funding from billionaire George Soros and whose co-founder met with Hamas also endorse him. Murphy's Super PAC even took $100,000 from an alleged sponsor of terrorism against Israel.
President Obama and George Soros? Where's Hitler? Cuz you know when West goes nuts, the
the Nazi references aren't far behind.
There's oh, so much more to say about Allen West and why we need to boot his ass out of Congress. But, really, is it necessary? Do you really need to me to convince you that he's got to go? Of course not. So then, let's get to it!
Give West some Hell to Pay!
4:06 PM PT: What a great start! Look at the thermometer!
4:18 PM PT: At this rate, we might bust the thermometer. I think we should try.
4:32 PM PT: So you know what? This race is still a toss-up. That just should not be. Let's go Murphy!
4:36 PM PT: We're a quarter of the way there, but already half-way in to the hour. C'mon, Kossacks, show us how much this race matters.
4:47 PM PT: Did you know this?
U.S. Rep. Allen West reeled in a $4 million and a 4-to-1 fundraising edge over Democratic competitor Patrick Murphy in the third-quarter, according to a news release Tuesday.
4:54 PM PT: You know what else? The only member of the House who has raised more money is John Boehner.
Allen West is the guy most Republicans want to keep in the House, after Boehner. Is that not some wicked motivation for our side?
4:59 PM PT: Almost halfway there. C'mon, we can get 100 donations to make a statement about what's not acceptable for a member of congress, can't we?
5:13 PM PT: Halfway point. Keep this one going!
6:56 PM PT: Whoa! I go off for dinner and a dog walk, and look what you guys do--amazing!
