All right, Kossacks, listen up! Sara has received $895 up to this point in donations to her PayPal account to help her and her sister winglion (Ann) to get to NN13.
Sara and Ann at NN12
Their original fundraising goal was to raise $1000, basically to be spent for 5 nights of lodging. Both of them have their registrations covered, and thanks to the
Armando/Alexander NN13 Scholarship awarded to Sara they also have $500 toward expenses, primarily for gas and parking since they're driving down.
But you know it's costly to travel, even with the head start this gives them. And, their original budget omitted food. While it's easy to grab one meal per day at an NN they have to drive down Tuesday to deliver the Wheelchair Quilts to the Spinal Cord Injury Unit of the Palo Alto VA Hospital on Wednesday, a project that Sara spearheaded. Thus they will have three days during the trip without any access to a free lunch.
With that in mind, let's bump up the goal to $1500, which means we still need to collect $605.
Donations should be sent to Sara's personal PayPal account since they are gifts, not to be mingled with their quilt/Pootie Pad income. This is the one to use: rainwoman AT mac DOT com
In case you are not familiar with Sara R's (and Ann's) work with the Community Quilt Project, let me point you to a recent diary in which
Sara makes the latest call for messages on behalf of a new prospective recipient. The original "quilt sisters," Sara and Ann have now completed ONE HUNDRED beautiful and wonderful quilts on behalf of Kossacks and those who love them. The latest three, for Oke, shanikka, and Clytemnestra, should astonish and bless their new owners any day now. (I'd have photos of each of those quilts here but am encountering technical difficulties. In the interest of time, I'll include a
link to a recent New Day diary by navajo in which they are featured. With luck, I'll get them uploaded eventually tonight.)
At NN13, the Sisters R will continue their tradition of collecting signatures for a quilt to be used to raise money for a candidate the community wishes to support through Act Blue. If you yourself will be there, please make sure to stop by their booth; it's always a happening place, and lots of great folks can be spotted nearby. I was the incredibly lucky winner of the quilt they created after NN12; it hangs in my living room in a place of honor. Here I am enjoying it before getting the hardware to put it up.
"Love Notes to the Future" in its lucky winner's grasp
Not incidentally--the proceeds from the four quilts made by Sara and Ann that have already come out of past NNs added about $17,000 to the campaigns of progressive candidates and causes. Sara and Ann donate their time, materials, and creativity toward these projects, which is no small contribution on their part.
Here's a final suggestion from the Diva herself, navajo, who has done a superb job this week in highlighting this call for funds in several New Day diaries:
Also, if cats own you or others please buy your owner a pootie-pad at Sara's website and command the others held captive that they must appease the cat who rulez their house also.
Tonight, companions of woozles will finally have the opportunity they've long awaited:
Pootie Pads for Dogs! Instead of catnip, the pads contain lavender and thyme, and Zen Trainer attests to their effectiveness with canines.
So you know what to do, right?
If you can contribute financially, that's wonderful and much appreciated. Funds should be sent via PayPal to rainwoman AT mac DOT com in any amount.
If you cannot contribute financially, we are still grateful for tips, recs, tweets and FB posts to help get the word out. BOTH kinds of contributions make a big difference.
On behalf of Sara and Ann, let me thank you in advance for all you can do to support their trip to NN13. It wouldn't be the same without them.
4:59 PM PT: Getting closer! Our total is now at $1040. That leaves $460 to go! Thank you, everyone, for all your support. Rec list too, which really helps. :)
6:41 PM PT: Whoo-hoo! Now the total is $1130! Thanks again, all who've tipped, recced, tweeted, FBed and donated. ♥
8:52 PM PT: Final update: The approximate total received so far is $1630~! We have made and surpassed our revised goal.
Thank you once more from my heart to everyone who made this fundraiser so quick and easy in several installments this week, starting with navajo's early calls for funds and continuing with every single rec, tip, tweet, FB post and donation that followed. I am so grateful to be a part of this generous community. Peace and blessings to all, and good night.
