So the (mis)deed is done. Republicans have won what we all hope is a Pyrrhic victory and fulfilled their only true policy agenda: the upward transfer of wealth.
Simply reversing this, and several other, Trump policies, laws etc., not only doesn’t go far enough, but also shows a real lack of conviction and vision.
If Republicans want to say this country can afford $1.5 trillion to make the rich even richer, then Democrats can counter with the same—there’s nothing we can’t afford to do. They need to set ambitious targets that benefit the 95% plus in this country that the GOP just sold out for big donors.
So how about:
Instead of restoring Obamacare, we target universal coverage and single payer.
Instead of simply repealing the Tax Heist (h/t Josh Marshall @TPM), we tax rich people’s money the same as working people’s money. No more “special money” that gets taxed at half or less what working people pay.
Instead of cutting Social Security/Medicare/Medicaid, we remove the artificial caps and exemptions that apply only to the wealthy.
Instead of restoring CHIP funding, we expand it.
Etc. Etc.
Finally, never miss the chance to remind every voter that the Republicans voted to raise taxes on a lot of working people. This breaks their core brand promise, and ultimately the only one that really matters to a huge swath of their reliable voters.
Happy Holidays all...keep the faith, and up the resistance.
