I feel this whole “Bernie versus Hillary” debate has become toxic. Its gotten too personal. I never thought I would hear the words “evil” to describe Hillary Clinton, coming from another democrat or progressive (for those who refuse to call themselves democrats, even though Bernie caucuses with democrats, and he is RUNNING IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY). But actually calling Hillary evil, Did NOT see that coming. I don’t hate her, and I certainly don’t think she’s evil. In fact, I agree with her on most things. And, I believe she is our best chance to keep the White House blue. Yes, BLUE.
I am not simply a cheerleader for the democratic party, but, well, actually, yes, I am a cheerleader for the democratic party. I am happy, and proud, that gay marriage is legal in this country. And I know that would NOT have occurred under a republican president. I also want Social Security to remain safe from republican efforts to destroy it. I also want Medicare to remain solvent for years to come. And I want to see the Affordable Health Law sustained. There, those are some of my principles. I am a liberal democrat. And given my party loyalty, I will also support Bernie should he win the nomination.
There is compromise in life. And sometimes we don’t always get EXACTLY what we want. So, should I not get what I want, which is Hillary Clinton on top of the democratic ticket, then I WILL SUPPORT BERNIE! I know a lot of Bernie supporters that say they will vote “Green” if Hillary wins the nomination. Really? How did Nader work out in 2000?? That gave us 8 YEARS OF REPUBLICAN RULE. So my problem isn’t with Bernie supporters, although I think calling Hillary “evil” is vicious and not progressive, but my problem with Bernie supporters, is the resistance to support Hillary if she should be the nominee. We’ve got enough people who hate democrats in this country, and they’re called republicans. So whether you want to recognize the democratic establishment or not (or whether you hate it or not), please realize that there is also a very real, very right wing, Ayn Rand loving, government program busting, anti gay, anti affirmative action, anti school loans, anti immigrant party called the republican party. AND THEY WOULD LOVE NOTHING MORE THAN TO SEE A FRACTURED DEMOCRATIC PARTY. It would make their jobs a lot easier. So, in closing, I AM A DEMOCRAT, AND PROUD OF IT, and I will support Bernie or Hillary.
