Who says Bernie Sanders can't win?  If he keeps coming up with simple mind blowing ideas like he did on CNN the other day , he is going to win a lot of votes!  Simple yes, mind blowing, only if you are an elite pundit like Wolf Blitzer who apparently doesn't get out much...  More after the psychedlic squiggly.....

"If you knew then what you know now about Iraq, would you still have invaded?" That seems to be the question di jour among the beltway stenographers who pass for journalists these days.  The question  is supposed  to be some kind of litmus test for presidential candidates.  Some have done well with the question, (Hillary said flat out, she made a mistate).  Other candidates have not fared so well ( Jeb Bush finally got it right after three answers, and Marco Rubio never got it right).  The obvious answer, of course, is hell no! I wouldn't have invaded. Obviously if you knew there were no weapons of mass destruction, why the hell would you invade.  You would have to be a war monger to want to go to war when you knew there was no reason to invade.  But for me, the real question should be, WHY DIDN'T YOU KNOW THEN WHAT YOU KNOW NOW??   To me, that question would reveal more about a presidential candidate. If you couldn't see through that Iraq war sales job based on flimsy or no evidence, you have no business being anywhere near the White House.  Of course many of us knew then what we know now and filled the streets in protest, displaying our knowledge back then.   More after the orange banner..

NFL, Patriotism for a price

by tvdude

I don't know about you, but I have always felt a little uncomfortable with the displays of military might before an NFL game and during half time.It just seemed a little forced to me and not natural.  The military jet flyovers during the playing of the national anthem, and the introduction of some military hero during half time.  Well come to find out, it really isn't all spontaneous.  It is actually bought and paid for!  More after the star spangled orange banner..

Little Johnny came home from school one day and his father asked, "what did you learn in school today Johnny?"  "Well", Johnny replied, "the teacher is trying to teach us the difference between, potential and reality, but I am having a hard time trying to learn the difference."   His Dad then said, " Well Johnny, I'll give you a little assignment that should help you out. Go to your sister, your mom and your brother and ask each one of them if they would sleep with Brad Pitt for a million bucks."   "Ok" Johnny replied. So he dutifully went off on his assignment.  First he approached his sister. "Hey sis, would you sleep with Brad Pitt for a million bucks?"  The sister shot back, "Sure I would, I mean he is gorgeous no problem."  Then he went to his mom.  "Mom," Johnny said cautiously , "would you sleep with Brad Pitt for a million bucks?"   "Well son, your Dad and I have been married for 30 years and I never cheated on him once but a million dollars could really help this family out, so I guess I would."   Then finally he went to his brother and said, "Hey bro , would you sleep with Brad Pitt for a million bucks?"  At first his brother said, "What the hell is the matter with you?  Do you think I am some kind of queer or something?"  then he thought about it for a bit. "You know, I could get a lot of stuff with a million bucks, Ok I would do it once."

So Johnny went back to his dad and his dad said, "Well what did they say?"   Johnny replied, "Well they all said yes but I don't understand how this helps me distinguish between potential and reality!"   Then Johnny's dad sighed, "Well son, let me put it to you this way  Potentially we are multi-millionaires....the Reality is, we live with two prostitutes and a homosexual."

The 1% vs the 99% NFL version

by tvdude

I have lived in San Diego for the last 17 years and have become a San Diego Chargers fan.  I know pro football is a business first and a sport second but it is fun to get together with friends on a Sunday and root for a team representing your city. Well yesterday the Chargers took the fun out of it by showing their fans the business side of the game.  In so doing they teamed up with a bitter rival and showed Charger fans just whose side they are really on!  More after the orange goal post.

Stay classy tv news!

by tvdude

David Susskind once said , " if you put an artichoke on TV after a couple of weeks that artichoke will become famous."  Unfortunately there are way too many artichokes on TV news today and not enough journalists.  I spent 16 years as a TV news anchor in various small to mid-size markets(Salt Lake City was the biggest market where I was a weekend anchor). Although I enjoyed the work, I never really enjoyed the people I worked with in the newsroom. I found a majority of them to be ego driven, back-stabbing kiss asses. Super Stupid Sunday Spectacle

by tvdude

If you want to see a microcosm of the decay in American society and culture, you need look no further than today's Super Bowl!  From the inane three hour Pre game show to the display of military might during the national anthem, the gluttony of over hyped corporate commercials and the embarrassing half time show, the Super Bowl puts on a display that makes the Roman coliseum pale in comparison. It's no wonder they label them by roman numerals! More after the orange goal line.

I don't know about you, but I think I have heard enough information on the supposedly deflated footballs  from the New England Patriots to last a couple of lifetimes!! I mean seriously, every time I turn on the tv or radio there is the latest breathless scoop on so called, "deflate gate."  Just in case you have been camping in the mountains or something ( which is the only way you could have avoided hearing about it),  the New England Patriots gained a competitive advantage in their game against the Indianapolis Colts be taking a little air out of the footballs that they used in the game.  In so doing they provided plenty of hot air for the TV news anchor types.  More after the deflated orange squiggly.

Is the NFL rigged?

by tvdude

I know this isn't the most pressing issue in America but with the suspicion of elections not exactly being on the up and up with paper-less voting machines, it just seems like more and more every aspect of our life is being controlled.  I have been watching NFL football for 40 years, I have never seen an incident like the one that occurred in the Lions - Cowboys playoff game today....More after the orange goal line..

Brad Blog vs. Nate Silver

by tvdude

In a post election analysis, Nate Silver wrote that pre-election polls were skewed towards Democrats...http://fivethirtyeight.com/...  He says the pollsters ( all of them ) got it wrong for various reasons.   Brad Blog came up with a response, "The results were skewed towards Republicans"  http://www.bradblog.com/...   I think his response deserves a little more attention.  More after the orange touch screen.

National Anthems and violent images

by tvdude

First off, I am a HUGE fan of the World Cup!  I have been ever since 1982 when I began following the tournament on a regular basis.  There is just something awe-inspiring about the entire planet ( and more recently the U.S.) being riveted on one sporting event.  For thirty days the world comes together to enjoy a fabulous spectacle and to watch some incredible soccer ( and some not so incredible moments i.e. suarez biting incident, but it's all part of the spectacle).  Maybe it's why this event seems to torment many conservatives who evidently can't stand to see the world come together even for 30 days. Becasue every country in the world plays soccer, it is the one time that even the smallest countries can compete with super powers at something!

One of my favorite moments ( that I never miss) comes right before each game : the playing of the two countries national anthems. It's the one time during the tournament when a small country can proudly showcase their feelings and love for country.  My wife is from Colombia ( i know we are still heart broken), as she was translating the words of her anthem I thought to myself, what nice words and sentiments.  It got me to thinking about our national anthem and some of the words are not so peaceful, in fact are kind of violent..It also got me to thinking about the words of the other 31 national anthems...so I did some research ...more after the star spangled wavy orange thing
