It is bad enough to have Mitch McConnell as my Senator, and his lesser evil Rand Paul. But to have Mitch f-ing McConnell lecturing Democrats not to do what he and his party did with impeaching Bill Clinton is just too much.
There is no parallel between the Republican’s handling of Clinton and what the Democrats should, and I hope will do, with Trump. McConnell’s Republican Party’s Independent Counsel was the polar opposite of Robert Mueller, just as the Republican Party is totally opposite the Democratic Party. As I recall, Ken Starr assumed his role after the first Independent Counsel had determined that there was no there there with Clinton.
For those who may not remember, the Republicans had demanded an Independent Counsel investigate Clinton over a land deal he had years before he was President. How ironic then that today’s Republicans are adamant that none of Trump’s real estate dealing can be looked into. Double Standard? Of course.
Then there was the House Post Office scandal, the Lincoln Bedroom scandal, Vince Foster’s suicide, none of which ever warranted investigation. But since there was never anything to the Whitewater land deal, and Starr and every Republican knew that, they did what they needed to extend the game, to harass the President, his wife, his family, and his friends. The Republicans abused their power at every turn, and lied about it every step of the way.
Now McConnell presents as fact that the Democrats would do the same.
No f-ing way.
This is Mitch McConnell who, when a black Democrat was elected President, during two active wars and greatest economic meltdown since the Depression, with hundreds of thousands of jobs being lost every month, rallied his fellow Republicans to oppose every single thing President Obama would try to do. The use of filibusters exploded, blue slips automatically prevented Obama’s judicial nominees at every single opportunity. And on and on.
Obama over and over demanded that Democratic legislation be watered down in pursuit of even a single Republican vote while the Republicans conspired to vote in lock-step against everything the Democratic majority proposed. For legislation that was eventually passed by the Democrats, McConnell was the leader of Republican’s outrage that every single thing the Democrats did was rammed through and that nothing Democrats did was ever bipartisan.
McConnell was a liar then and he is now.
McConnell has never come clean about the Republican Party’s willingness to sacrifice millions of people’s livelihoods, life savings and futures to make Obama a one term President. For his Party’s power.
McConnell is not alone. Every single Republican in Congress follows the same script. Every single Republican and the entire right-wing media colossus raise hell and scream about every single thing Democrats want to do, but they also scream about things Democrats have no intention of doing or would ever do.
Democrats will never act like Republicans.
Ever.
The Republican Party and the Conservative movement is a sociopathic enterprise, not a democratic one. McConnell and the Republican have shown the nation who they are in the same way Trump has, meaning, who they are has always been obvious to anyone paying attention. The currency of the Republican Party and their media lapdogs has for more than a generation been hate, racism, lies, and abusing their power. That is never going to change.
Democrats are none of those things.
When Democrats comment on the truth about Republicans, the Republicans go on the attack, because attacking is their long ago learned and only response. Routinely, Republicans accuse Democrats of displaying their hatred of Republicans when all we do is give the people the truth, which as Truman said, they think is hell.
Republicans are not “projecting” when they sanctimoniously declare all of the awful things and abuses Democrats will do. They are feeding their base, and the media treats it as the truth rather that refute the lies.
Democrats are not conspiring to prevent their opponents from voting. Republicans are.
Democrats are not trying to keep every vote from be counted. Republicans are.
Democrats have no history of abusing their office for partisan benefit. Republicans do.
Democrats do not lie to the American people every single day. Republicans do.
Democrats do not serve the rich at the expense of the nation. Republicans do.
The Democratic Party embraces and reflects the diversity of this country. The Republican Party does not.
Mitch McConnell knows all that. He is a leader in all of that. He will never, ever, admit to any of it.
Ever.
Mitch McConnell will never fight for ordinary Americans if doing so would take one cent away from the rich.
Ever.
Mitch McConnell will continue to try and scare people by accusing that Democrats are going to do what Republicans have always been doing.
Because that is the worst thing he could say.
