Why, oh why, can't our Democratic leaders think before they act, and when they do act have the conviction, the resolve, the integrity, to stand by what they do?
Paul Hackett's most refreshing words ring in my ears: "I said it, I meant it, I stand by it."
Why after all we've been through this isn't our mantra? Instead, as soon as the going gets tough, as soon as the Republicans raise their ire, we back down. Why should America rely on us if at the first sign of trouble we cave in?
Consequently, we are unable to take potent and effective shots at Bush and/or the Republicans. Why do these Dems even bother to start a fight if they know they don't have the backbone to stand their ground? Indeed, it can be said that our opponents define and determine the parameters of our criticism. Anytime we strike a nerve, or hit pay dirt, they yell and scream bloody murder, and we cave.
