Two nights ago I went to the last organizational meeting of our local volunteer organization in MD that has mobilized thousands of volunteers. To my surprise the turnout was about half of normal (~125 people rather than 250). We speculated that local Obama supporters were "relaxing" because Obama is ahead in the pools. Obama staff at the meeting emphasized that the recent Obama support is fragile and that it is critical to be out there nurturing that support in the midst of the anticipated nastiness the closing McCain campaign (such as Robocalls). Below the fold, I describe my canvassing last weekend in a Republican-dominated part of Virginia. MANY undecided voters I talked with thanked me earnestly for coming to talk with them. My last contact of the day ended with a notable comment. "If they [McCain canvassers] don’t come by to talk with me, I am going to vote for Obama".
