It is now January there are plenty of uninjured people working the thermal cameras at the doors to check for the Coronavirus. There are plenty of people passing out water bottles, and in this weather hand warmers, there are plenty of uninjured people holding sticker guns to put labels on packages.
I could lift ten pounds at the start of my disability leave but none of these jobs were open? Amazon Management could not ask an uninjured worker to Scan, Pull, Unload trucks so I could get pay benefits, and stocks which Amazon would match half my contribution from my meager paycheck? ( I planned on eating Pinto beans and cutting back on meat to afford to do that now that I am a Blue Badge permanent worker).
It is a nice dream it helps motivate you too bad I went to my Doctor because I was dropping packages I was told I would need to see a Workman’s Comp Doctor.
Workman’s Comp took X-Rays they took one look and got me into Physical Therapy that very day no waiting for Amazon approval of the expenses. ( Later on Amazon would make me wait a week been approving more therapy sessions 2, 3? rounds of physical therapy and now I am waiting for approval for my second round of Acupuncture let’s say a month without therapy has been wasted between October and January).
I do not think the goal is to get me healthy but rather to drag out the process so I am forced to take another job. Most likely a lesser paying job without Healthcare, Double-time Holiday Pay or Stock Benefits. Amazon is great at saving money
I will admit their is another possible factor in Amazon’s decision not to accommodate my medical restriction which is no longer 10 pounds but 30 pounds, Amazon requires 40 pounds.
I had filed an ethics complaint before I went to my Doctor I wanted a transfer out of Amazon DLA8 Hawthorne CA.
I thought if Amazon knew just how messed up I know they are Human Resources would speed up my transfer request.
I had asked one person in Leadership? ( so many vests with so many titles but no clear explanation of the hierarchy ).
Where My Manager was my overtime was not showing up on my check. He told me to figure it out and walked away.
I replied hey I talked to Corporate HR on the phone they said if my overtime was not fixed by midnight talk to my Manager.
I actually waited until my shift was over because I did not want to slow production. ( And Management wonders why some people don’t work overtime that much:).
The next incident I asked him if he could put me down on the job board as a Scanner it is his job to say yes or no we really need you somewhere else he froze eyes bulging in anger. I still have no idea why racism? I looked at his girl wrong? my Grandfather killed his in a duel before he left Mexico? ( My abuser is not Mexican but my Grandfather did kill a guy in a duel then had to leave Mexico). ( Amazon DLA* Human resources later claimed in an email that I was not entitled to my pick of job assignments) I replied it is Leadership? Management’s job to give me a job assignment so far I have not received a reply yet.
I have had three people 2 workers and one in leadership say if I asked I could go into Leadership, Line Lead, Trainer, Problem Solve etc but how can I if there is one person in leadership who will not talk to me? You can’t work a Leadership job without talking much less cooperating with your fellows.
I told Human Resources I knew they would do nothing so I wanted a transfer what happened is they claim they can’t find the guy.
Funny I told them my last day working he came into work on my shift ( it is not his normal shift). I asked Amazon DLA8 Human Resources if after an ethics complaint is filed if it is normal to bring in the abuser to work on the victim’s shift especially if he does not normally work the shift? I asked was there nobody else with his skill set available? some might call this retaliation or witness intimidation.
I did see him yelling at my witness or someone next to her that day but I was busy at work and thought he could be yelling about something else. Bad move on my part I did not know the guy’s name she did and she was my only witness to both incidents.
Heck when he would not put my name on the job board for minutes she put my name on the job board. Until he left my shift a month or two later everyday she would walk up and write my name on the job board everyone else would ask to be put on the job board and get to work wherever they wanted most of the time but not me.
I went along with it she was trying to keep me out of trouble, she was willing to risk embarrassment by singling me out for Special Treatment everyday in front of all the other managers and workers.
It was not special treatment I had no choice where I wanted to work at all. But if she could make an effort how could I doles I never asked her about it, the guy’s name or even why.
I did not want to burden her or make her chose between us I was a new hire a stranger so I asked for a transfer. But Amazon Human Resources DLA8 asked to start an investigation when I asked for a transfer so I told them to talk to the Shift Assistant to get his name.
I think my abuser scared her with the yelling I don’t know for sure I went on Workman’s Comp after that.
I mentioned all this to Amazon DLA8 and they said until proven guilty they don’t restrict where employees work or even what they talk about. Possible Collusion and Witness Intimidation are apparently not their concerns I replied by email if Amazon treats sex abuse victims the same way….I am still waiting for a reply to that.
One could argue if I had felt free to explore moving up I would not have kept on working so hard and gotten injured.
Workman’s Comp is a deal some pay not enough to live on and medical treatment assuming your employer approves it in exchange for not suing.
I think the deal is no longer valid the terms imply we have a wage we can live on! But why worry it’s not like I would have a chance suing Amazon their lawyers would investigate me 6 ways to Sunday.
Is Amazon’s goal to make hurt workers quit by denying them any accommodation at their job and force them to live on 60% or so of what is not a living wage in the first place?
Or was Amazon DLA8 Management’s goal to attempt to intimidate me for daring to file an ethics complaint and then pretending to investigate? I have offered through the Amazon Corporate Ethics hotline ( I filed a complaint with them after months of waiting for Amazon DLA8 to complete their investigation just how many months does it take for Amazon DLA8 to tell an employee the investigation is over we could not find the witnesses name?). How many Amazon DLA8 Human Resources Personal and Managers does it take to screw in a light bulb might be a better question Cripes they really should drug test all management and check for Psychopathic traits.
One hopes they are all high or psychopaths otherwise Amazon is hiring and promoting incompetents. Given the long hours the managers work especially during the holidays I know Amazon does not have the Stones to do that.
Hare’s psychopath test or a brain scan to weed out management, leadership of people who have these traits very well might pay for itself White Collar crime costs the US more than Blue Collar crime.
My abuser does seem to have some psychopathic traits I have mentioned to Amazon’s Corporate Ethics Hotline I am willing to go to Amazon DLA8 and look at pictures of employees to identify my abuser so far I have not heard a reply.
Amazon brags about Problem Solving and Logistics but it is only when they want to do something.
Notice I can clear 3 or 4 isles of shelves as a scanner to help someone who is behind and still clear my shelves but never get a thank you. Even though I am saving Amazon on overtime costs. (Amazon expects 240 packages a minute my best is 454 packages a minute).
However if we are offered overtime I get the exact same thank you as the lazy guy who did not help anyone, gossiped with Management all day and did the bare minimum. Which leaves them with more energy to work overtime and by not helping creates more overtime.
But by gossiping with the bosses more those guys get promoted more and thanked more because heck I am tired I usually go home. Heck I turned my head the last time someone tried to thank me for working overtime it hurt to hear them talk.
Amazon knows our Scan rate how many packages we move, they know if I scan packages for someone else, they are very worried about theft but who gets thanked ?
Why do they get thanked? because if Overtime happens and not enough of us workers work then they have to help!
Such short term thinking, such a lack of ability to see Cause and Effect suggests to me Amazon Managers need more sleep they are awake more than we are we can leave after 10 hours overtime is a choice but not for them they have to stay. Management efficiency could be improved if they slept more.
Next Idea imagine if Amazon tested just their sales, accounting and management at the site to corporate level all that White Collar crime mostly committed by psychopaths would be turned to profit.
A profit advantage UPS, FedEx etc does not have Amazon supposedly rewards employee ideas ( I might get into that more on another post). If so I would like to be rewarded if Amazon does this I am quite sure you can find me Amazon is great at spying on labor activists. Now if only they could find my abuser:)
