I think it could be said that most of the people here want to make the world a better place through changing the government. Changing its policies; changing who's in it; changing how it works. A crucial part of the process to change is elections. Reliable vote counting, campaign finance reform, ballot access, the right to vote, redistricting, and my favorite niche: election methods - or - how we cast and count ballots.
The traditional single vote system often distorts elections. The major candidates warn against "throwing your vote away" on a minor player. Because of this you might decide to vote strategically for an "electable" candidate rather than for your honest favorite. There is also the possibility of a "spoiler" candidate, the most famous recent example being Ralph Nader in the 2000 presidential election.
