Dear Congressman xxxxxxx,
I have a son in 10th Grade at xxxxx High School. Last year he was lucky enough to take the pilot AP Government class and I recall that you were kind enough to come and talk to him and the other students about the role of congress in our government.
My son learned a lot in that class - but it doesn't appear to have any recognizable connection with the reality of present day DC.
I'm not a huge fan of the ACA but I have to tell you that putting a metaphorical gun to the head of the economy and holding it hostage, in order to undo a law that was enacted, reconfirmed by the electorate, and survived challenge in the supreme court, is not a principled stand; it is a cynical attack on the system of government which you are obligated to uphold.
I know that you are a reasonable man at heart and accordingly I'd urge you to reconsider your position, not just on this issue, but also on whether you should continue to identify with a caucus which appears bent on anarchy, at best.
Should reason fail to prevail, consider the politics -
- The guy next door to me (his name is xxxxx xxxxx), is a lifelong republican. He is also uninsurable, and because of that in the absence of ACA his life is not likely to last much longer - since he has just been diagnosed with kidney cancer, which is eminently treatable, but it is beyond his financial means to do so.
My neighbor also has a son, a talented kid who played hockey for xxxxxxx (and the NHL - once - before he got locked out), and graduated in the top tenth of his business admin class.
Do you think he's going to grow up to be a republican if you pour gas all over both the economy in which he has to build a life, and his family, and then light a match?
I'm trying to communicate the reality, the evil, the stupidity, of the damage that you personally are inflicting on real people by going along with this insanity. Some voted for you. Others did not, All, it is your job to represent. I have to tell you that you are not doing that job.
Sincerely,
