I just came across with an article in the HuffPost about Ron Paul's branch of libertarianism that has caught the attention of the Muslims in America.
One of them is Nadja Adolf, a 50 year old converted Muslim woman. She's embracing Ron Paul libertarianism because:
"[w]hen you come from a countryside that can kill you,... there is a strong emphasis on individual rights, a strong emphasis on self-reliance, and an emphasis on helping each other out." And that what makes her drawn to Ron Paul's campaign.
Zahra Siddiqui, a political science major at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, shared with Ron Paul's strong opposition to the National Defense Authorization Act. She said:
"These laws are obviously directed at policing Muslims," Siddiqui said. "Ron Paul knows how to differentiate between Muslims and terrorists, and he would never sacrifice any citizen's liberties over security."
It's quite intriguing that even though Obama has been known as championing the improvement of AS-Muslim world relationship, not to mention his 4 year of living in Jakarta during his elementary school years, he's increasingly seen by Muslims being inconsistent with his speeches in Cairo and Jakarta. His failure to engage with Iranian government on the issue of nuclear program has further justified the disenchantment of the Muslims who initially trusted him as an effective representative of the Western countries.
This disenchantment has resonated with the Muslims in America who are now watching closely the 2012 GOP Presidential campaign. Ron Paul seems to be closer to what they expect at home than President Obama. Whether or not the Texas Congressman is going to win the nomination in November is not really the point here. What matters is that the American Muslims are now sharing Pauline branch of libertarianism as an alternative for their political ideology.
