President Obama was in Cedar Falls, Iowa yesterday, pushing for innovative ways to create real competition for broadband Internet access. Windsong01 created this diary to discuss it, and the diary attracted a fair amount of interest, so this by itself is not much of a scoop. But in the diary, windsong01 mused:
Now let’s see how long it takes the big cable Company trolls to begin screaming foul.
Well, local cable provider MediaCom obliged.
Their statement was entirely predictable, and every bit as obnoxious as you would imagine. The only thing that makes it worth a look are the comments that poured in. Pretty much a cable company hatefest, and nothing but support for the municipal utility company that has been supplying Cedar Falls with Internet access - the sort of access President Obama was there to promote.
It's a fun read, so I had to share. Heckuva job, MediaCom PR folks! I think you should have just kept your corporate mouth shut. And brilliant move Mr. President, pushing an issue that challenges one of the most universally-hated industries out there.
