Apparently kossacks are united in their opposition to Operation Hilarity. I'm here to say that some of us think it's a good idea and about bloody time to take the fight back. Why?
1. Airing their lunacy will neuter it. This primary fight is dragging the fundamentalist crazies into the limelight, exposing their actual views and policies – for so long hidden behind the scenes. They've finally managed to force their way onto our screens and are airing their laundry list of regressive desires – putting women back in the bedroom and kitchen, shuttering gays, xenophobic racism – right out in public. This. Is. Fantastic.
Mainstream republicans have been ignorant of the fundamentalist character for too long. Now they are being forced to watch the truth come out in undeniable bloody color on national TV, YouTube, blogs, and social media. They're disgusted and it's generating a big pushback. The more it's aired, the more they'll push back.
The longer Santorum is viable, the stronger the reaction will get.
Some people think it's better to keep this stuff hidden, that it's too strong for voters to hear about, that it might poison the debate. Hogwash. It's truth, it needs to be set free, and when it's set free, the people will see it and wish they could look away.
2. Rick Santorum will never get elected president. This is a country that was founded on the separation of church and state. The US will never elect a truly theocratic president. What are you, afraid of armageddon?
