Photobucket 40 years ago, many of the chemical toxins that are now found in mother's milk didn't even exist.

Since then, the varieties and levels of toxins in women's breast milk have increased dramatically. This trend is increasing health risks for all nursing infants.

First things, first. It's not time to panic, and not time to stop nursing. In almost all cases, the health benefits of nursing far outweigh the potential problems from POPs. But it is time to learn more about the problem, and ultimately to take social and political action to protect our children's children from facing a more difficult choice when it's their time to care for a newborn.

THIS is not brand new and I have seen it mentioned here and there, but should probably be pointed out every day and every where, for the good it might do.

And excellent diary here last week pointed out that the USA Today, a national paper with rightish leanings one could argue, has equated climate change deniers with 'birthers.'

It is fair and its meanings are clear. I think we should consider mentioning that in every related conversation, and labeling - fairly in my opinion - climate denialists or climate zombies, Climate Birthers instead. It's a title that really gets down to what's going on. And we have the USA Today to back us up.

That paper put climate change deniers " in the same position as the "birthers," who continue to challenge President Obama's American citizenship — a vocal minority that refuses to accept overwhelming evidence." (USA TODAY editorial board, May 17th 2011)

I guess it's a stretch - like saying moon-landing-birthers for that 'vocal minority that refuses to accept overwhelming evidence.' Just the same, it has a ring to it, imho.

P.S. Chemical and carbon pollution must be dramatically reduced soon!

Right now where you live, there is a whole lot of hidden poisoning going on. It has not been stopped. It is accelerating. And dishonesty for profit is killing someone you know. But, if we do pay attention, we can do something about all of that....

I just want to add a little more and a different take to the excellent Wikileak diaries being posted at this site.

It is not just that a NSA report revealed that a fake incident was part of the justification for the US to go to war with Vietnam - costing millions of Vietnamese and American lives: "[I]t is not simply that there is a different story as to what happened; it is that no attack happened that night."

It is not just that, as seen on ABC News, "... America's top military leaders reportedly drafted plans to kill innocent people and commit acts of terrorism in U.S. cities to create public support for a war against Cuba." The Wikileaks furor is about much more:

If he can say it, so can we - and at this moment, good is losing badly to evil in this historic battle. At the highest levels of the political world, nothing significant is actually being done about the climate change crisis.

Except for Schwarzenegger's jurisdiction, that is particularly true when North American conservatives are involved: This Fall's congressional elections in the US included winning campaigns by several amazingly ignorant candidates - who happen to not believe climate change is happening. [ If they, or anyone reading this still cares to dispute reality, they should read the climate lists linked right here - and dispute it with those people. Meanwhile, back to the terminator:

BP and several other big European companies are funding the midterm election campaigns of Tea Party favourites who deny the existence of global warming or oppose Barack Obama's energy agenda, the Guardian has learned.

I'm sure a lawyer could tell us how that is somehow not a case of foreign corporations influencing American elections? ( They're outta be a law!) But this is worse than a corporate take-over of a nation.

This is a deliberate and knowing corporate manipulation of the gullible minds out there that buy into Rush's lies - and Inhofe's and Palin's and Beck's insanities - against the facts, to the detriment of Americans and people everywhere. You can help. Send the following facts to the climate zombie/denialist nearest you:

For five hundred years, much of the world viciously opposed the claim that the Earth orbited the sun. For 500 years - even though it was allegedly proven by science. And now, that same pathetic and willful ignorance has risen from the dead.

A recent paper in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society titled "The Psychology of Global Warming" delved into why so many people cling to denialism in locked opposition to evidence and facts.

Why is interesting. But in this instance we do not have 500 years to let reality sink in for those people as they stagger about - grasping not for "brains" like fictional zombies, but for excuses to cling to false beliefs.

Admittedly, dead worms aren't likely to headline the national news. But they can effectively symbolize the struggle between environmental stewardship and recklessness for profit.

Joye's findings so far have found oil in depths ranging from 300 to 4,000 feet. Shallower waters, in particular, are potentially important not just for life on the bottom but for the entire marine ecosystem.

"A lot of fish go down to the bottom and eat and then come back up," Hollander says. "And if all their food sources are derived from the bottom, then indeed you could have this impact."

Figuring all that out though, will probably take many years.

"Documentary filmmaking is still the last bastion for truth telling," "It's very sad that Dole has now shown their support for Chevron's attack on Joe Berlinger."

Chevron Corp. is embroiled in a 17 year battle over allegations of environmental destruction in Ecuador, and is presenting oral arguments before the U.S. Court of Appeals in New York today, in a related battle. Chevron wants all the outtakes from director Joe Berlinger's 2009 documentary "Crude."

What is at stake from a journalistic point of view is the question of whether, if all outtakes must be made public - whistleblowers or even concerned citizens will be afraid to speak up in the future. How much braver will they have to be if they know that anything at all they say can be made public and dragged through the courts?

Mining the seabed, thousands of feet below the surface of the ocean, is man's next move - in the search for materials for cell phones, automobile dashboards, countless other consumer products.

Whenever we get a shift to sustainability - years from now or decades, it will be because enough people have realized deeply enough that we absolutely have to find a way. Spreading that realization is slow going. Jarring videos like this new one may be our best hope.
