The Koch brothers have essentially supplanted the Republican party when it comes to the ground work of identifying and turning out their voters. They've created a massive and sophisticated data system, i360, and have a deal in place with the Republican National Committee to use it, and where the Kochs want to use it this cycle is on Senate races, because of course they do. They want to pretend Trump doesn't exist.
It's not working.
KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. — Jeremy Baker, a field director for the Americans for Prosperity conservative group, was looping through this neatly manicured Philadelphia suburb on a mission last week to make the case against Democratic Senate contender Katie McGinty.
But nearly every voter had someone else on their minds: Donald Trump. […]
Last week, AFP launched ground operations on behalf of GOP incumbents in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Wisconsin — the earliest the group has ever begun making explicit political appeals in the field.
But just a few hours into the effort, it was apparent how difficult it will be to avoid Trump’s outsize presence in the campaign. And it was clear that even if the Koch network stays out of the presidential race, it could still end up being one of Trump’s best assets.
Good luck with that guys, and, really, keep spending all your money in Wisconsin, where your guy is trailing Russ Feingold by 10 points. That's a brilliant investment.
But it gives us all the more incentive to counteract their money and their organizing in these races. Let’s get the Senate back and make sure every voter turning out for Trump is matched by two voting for Clinton.
