Cheat Sheet: Key Race Tracker
IL-14: Here’s a phenomenal win: The AP has called this race for Democrat Lauren Underwood, a Daily Kos endorsee and first-time candidate who defeats Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren in a GOP-leaning district. She’ll also add to the diversity of our caucus (she’s a young black woman), and bring critical healthcare knowledge, as she’s a nurse. A great pickup indeed.
Polls are now closed along the West Coast, in California, Oregon, and Washington, as well as Hawaii. Only Alaska remains open (though of course, if you’re still in line to vote anywhere, you still have the right to vote no matter how long it takes).
NY-22: Democrat Anthony Brindisi has defeated GOP Rep. Claudia Tenney. Both sides spent a ton here, but this district moved toward Trump in 2016 and wasn't the easiest turf for Democrats.
IL-13, NY-19: CNN has called both of these races for Democrats on the air (yeah, apparently people still get election results on TV? wild!), but there doesn’t yet seem to be confirmation from other outlets online. Both would be Dem pickups.
Take a look at our ticker at the top of the site: Democrats have flipped a net of 17 seats so far. They need 23 to retake the chamber.
OH-Gov: A bummer: AP calls this one for Republican Mike DeWine, who beats Democrat Rich Cordray.
NC Supreme Court: This is a huge one: Democrat Anita Earls, a Daily Kos endorsee, has defeated an incumbent Republican justice to win a spot on North Carolina’s Supreme Court! This ensures progressives will have a 5-2 majority, and secures a path for the court to rule against partisan GOP gerrymanders that have discriminated against people of color and undermined electoral fairness—not to mention ensure a fair hearing for countless other issues.
