This is a continuation of my
diary from yesterday, recapping the last few days of the Tennessee Senate campaign. The same disclaimer applies. Obvi!
Every morning, like a bad habit, I read The Tennessean, the main newspaper in Nashville. It's very poorly written and tends to promote stories that most people would not find interesting (STOP THE PRESSES THE CMA NOMINATIONS WERE ANNOUNCED TODAY!), so I read it mostly for the comics and to keep up with my Tennessee Titans.
But today, the morning after we were graced by a visit from President Dumbya, this was the picture that was front and center in the Tennessean:
To those of you are convinced that Harold Ford Jr. is like the Tennessee version of Joe Lieberman, just look at that picture. You'll never see Ford hugging Bush, gazing up at him affectionately. Actually, Corker kind of looks like Lieberman from that angle.
This is what Ford had to say about Bush's visit (emphasis mine):
"If people are looking for a Senator who does what Bush wants, I'm not the guy.
Which, ya know, does kind of contrast with Lieberman, who said back in 2005:
"It is time for Democrats who distrust President Bush to acknowledge that he will be Commander-in-Chief for three more critical years, and that in matters of war we undermine Presidential credibility at our nation's peril."
The bottom line: Harold Ford Jr. is NOT Joe Lieberman. He is simply a Dem who is somewhat more conservative than many Kossacks would like. I've said it before, a Ted Kennedy type would get laughed right out of the state. Bob Corker, on the other hand, cozies up to Bush--far more Lieberman-like behavior.
It doesn't matter who he will or won't endorse in the TN-09 Congressional race. The Dem, State Sen. Steve Cohen, will win by a large margin. Would y'all disown Ned Lamont or Jim Webb if it turned out one of them had a crooked brother who made some irrational political decisions? If not, then don't let that be a reason to write off Harold Ford Jr.
This is the choice for TN-Sen:
A U.S. Congressman who has repeatedly championed alternative energy, supported American workers (voted against CAFTA and the Oman FTA), and who will vote for Harry Reid to be the Senate Majority Leader...
...or what you see in the picture.
