Here is how the Stanford Daily accurately reported "President" Bush's attempted visit and the protests that forced him to change his itinerary:
The Stanford Daily
Although President George W. Bush was scheduled to meet with fellows at the Hoover Institution on Friday, the presence of more than 1,000 protestors forced him to change his plans and meet with advisers and faculty members at the residence of former Secretary of State and Hoover Fellow George Shultz on the outskirts of the Stanford campus.
On the other hand, here is how the Washington Post reported, or -- more to the point -- didn't report the same incident (below the fold):
Washington Post
Bush traveled Friday night to Stanford University, where he met privately with members of the libertarian Hoover Institution to discuss the war. He concluded the day with a private dinner held by George P. Shultz, a Hoover fellow and former secretary of state. Bush will have lunch Sunday with Marine Corps and Navy families.
That's the Post for you. If we don't like the news we'll just pretend it didn't happen.
Fortunately it's 2006 and we have ways of finding the
truth: Daily Kos - Unwelcoming Bush in San Jose
P.S. It turns out there are even more layers to the media cover-ups and lies about the protests. It appears that Bush wasn't "forced" to change his plans, he merely ran away from of protests. Ben Elberger, a
Stanford student who was at the protest has posted Daily Kos - What Really Happened at Stanford University.
The fact of the matter is that Mr. Bush was given a clear and open path to access the Hoover Institution that students peacefully respected. Over 500 students, however, lined the gates opening a route to this back entrance and 500 other students stood behind gates to the front entrance. Bush didn't go to Hoover because the image of 1,000 people protesting his visit was politically disadvantageous.
So the corporate media has two stories going, both slanted towards Bush, but contradicting each other. The Post seems to think the protest was so trivial it wan't worth
mentioning. But the other meme that's put out is that
the protest was so threatening it "forced" Mr. Bush to change his plans. The possiblity that Mr. Bush chose to run away from a group of citizens peacefully assembled for the redress of their grievances is not even considered, even though he has a six year record of only appearing before
hand-picked crowds. We'll he's been AWOL before, so
what should we expect.
