My neighbors had some guys over this afternoon, in the rain/sleet, to decorate their front yard and put lights in their trees for the holiday season. They have an interesting yard. If only I could have found my camera and taken a picture for you I could have shown you the ferris wheel they put up - with snowmen and santa figures riding in the carts. Or perhaps I could have taken a picture of the Candy Cane arch that now hovers over the walkway leading to their door. But then again, I could also focus on the two fake snow-people in the yard - lit from within. They aren't plastic, but mesh, with lighting and tinsel. Or...(oh yes, there is more), I could have taken a picture of Santa's sleigh and reindeer?
Just how big is this yard, you're wondering?
Not that big actually! I was reminded of the Griswold's Christmas Lights.
Anyway, I'm not big on decorations. Seems like a lot of work to put them up, just to turn around and take them down again. Packing and unpacking, and I don't really get much joy from them. I'm sure that's not a popular opinion, but oh well - how do you feel about decorating for the holidays? Are there certain holidays where it's a must? Certain ones you ignore altogether?
From dadanation:
in a long, tangential thread that plays out in bob johnson's snarkilicious diary this morning Oh, it's gonna' be uuuuuugly..., condoleaser lets loose one absolutely stunning photograph illustrating my concern over the use of the word "heh" in a blog comment. MBNYC was the catalyst for the thread. the whole thread, beginning with the 1st "heh" thrown out by MBNYC is kinda cool too. condoleaser's photograph just was pure brilliance.

From buhdydharma's outstanding America DOES Torture -- Now What?:
* Jim P remembers a place called America.
* Meteor Blades not only remembers the past, he is not sanguine about the future.
* Marcion and MA Liberal warn us to not be distracted by waterboarding and forget all of the other heinous acts being performed in our name -- sleep deprivation, the sexual humiliation, the chaining for days in stress positions and many others -- are all torture too.
brillig makes an important point about recommending diaries and tigerdog follows up with not one, but TWO recipes for Bailey's Irish Creme in cskendrick's Nobody Cares About Your Candidate Anymore.
From asiegel:
My Is Global Warming Overblown? diary generated quite a few interesting comments. Deep within the posts, FischFry reminds us that Chicken Little eventually was right and Bob Love suggests a question for Katie to ask the next time.
Amid my attempt to outline core concerns with the Lieberman-Warner Climate InSecurity Action (CISA), Cassiodorus and Badger (with occcasional contribution from JohnnyRook) engaged in a deep dive interaction over the relationship of capitalism to the challenges of Global Warming. Well worth a read starting with the ever provocative Cassiodorus.
