No it's not a PBS poll it's PPP. They are doing a vote right now to choose which state to poll next. PPP stands for Public Policy Polling. The WSJ ranked them amongst the top in swing state polling last year. Our website looked at polling just one race in Alabama and the cost was in the 2K to 3K price range. We can get one for nothing with your help!
VOTE FOR ALABAMA. I explained why yesterday. I'll expand on that below.
AL-Gov. Congressman Artur Davis has a good chance to be the first African American Governor of Alabama. He was recently in Politico's 25 politicians to watch
Davis, who is vying to become the first African-American governor in the Deep South since Reconstruction, has an amazingly delicate balancing act in front of him. First he must win over skeptics in the Alabama Democratic establishment to capture the party nomination in the June primary. But he must do it without compromising his ability to compete as a black candidate in a conservative state where President Obama and the national Democratic agenda are highly unpopular. If Davis manages the feat, he’ll have rewritten all the rules of Southern politics.
Alabama went 61 39 for McCain, so this would be a hell of an accomplishment for Artur Davis. But first he has to get passed the more Progressive populist Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks. Sparks recently turned down an opportunity to run in the 5th district.
Davis leaves behind a wide open seat in the heavily Democratic 7th. Even if Davis loses the race for governor we can improve the Alabama electorate by putting a real Progressive into that D+18 district.
7th District. This one is wide open; Shelia Smoot, Terri Sewell and Earl Hilliard Jr are the frontrunners but the primary field is loaded with candidates.
5th District. Parker Griffith was elected as a Democrat in '08 but he changed parties at the end of last year. Both high profile candidates that were rumored to run have recently declined. A poll in this district could let us know what their chances would be. And a poll of the Republican primary of Griffith v Right Wing Challenger would be interesting as well.
3rd District. Last year many Kossacks helped raise money and awareness about Joshua Segall's run for Alabama's 3rd seat. He came 7 points from winning, 53-46 with hardly any help from the DCCC or national attention. He was also in his first race for Congress and would have been the youngest Congressman if he were elected. Now that the Presidential race isn't sucking up all the media attention, Josh may be able to turn this winnable district around. But we need to generate some more buzz about this state.
Head over to PPP vote for Alabama, and help spread the word! The other leaders are CT and MA, those states will get oodles of polls anyway.
