RECS ARE NEEDED TO KEEP THIS RECLISTED. If you haven't rec'd this mothership, please do so now.
This is the BP Junk Shot Mothership, Day Four.
I'm so sorry to be the one to bring you that news.
Rules of the Road
- Let's keep this a meta diary. To volunteer to host an ROV (submersible) diary, leave a comment here.
- For commenting on the Top Kill/Junk Shot attempt, please go to the current ROV diary.
- Please rec this mothership diary, not the submersibles.
- Please be kind to fellow kossacks who may have limited bandwidth and refrain from posting images or videos.
To repeat: please refrain from commenting in this mothership diary, unless you're volunteering for a submersible shift.

Late Breaking News:
29 May 2010, 7:44 AM - RECAP: If you're just joining us (I'm a late comer to this liveblog myself) the top kill procedure continues. Videos coma and go, all the while progress seems uneven. One can see at times mud shooting from the leaks, sometimes more oil than anything.
The circus that this has created is ongoing. Last night, C-Span aired coverage of an MMS hearing during which I saw one Deepwater Horizon survivor being questioned on the events in great detail. The questioners: Cameron (the questioner that I saw), BP, and Transocean lawyers (I'm just assuming they were the other questioners - if there was any introductions, I tuned in too late to catch them). So here's a question for you: why are companies who are under investigation directing that investigation? Is the MMS and Interior Department so incompetent corrupt they cannot conduct have their own lawyers carry out their own investigations?
Of course the theme adopted in the MSM, by now, has become significantly political, led by Ray Nagin James Carville's continuing outburst. I sympathize with Carville's point though: ordinary people whose lives are being ruined by this need to know that there is somebody in between them and BP. Someone who is there looking out for their interests. I can sympathize. I felt the same way about HIR.
29 May 2010, 9:15 AM: Here we go. CNN reports that the Oil Industry Lashes Out At Drilling Ban. I'm really tired of seeing America at it's worst - there's probably a political meme to be exploited by this sentiment, but there it is.
29 May 2010, 1:28 PM: CNN has announced that a BP press conference is imminent. That was about 30 minutes ago. Meanwhile, it looks to us like the BOP from one of the relief wells will be moved to the volcano site, replacing the broken BOP there. We're waiting on hard news.
29 May 2010, 1:57 PM: The BP presser is done, and the situation remains the same. CNN is announcing that and showing video of the leak, which shows brown colored mud coming out of the leak. Only problem is the timestamp on the video is 5 hours old, and watching the current video on my other computer (with a current timestamp) shows no mud at all. Just oil. CNN gets it wrong again, and we wonder why . . . .
29 May 2010, 6:30 PM PM: It's official: in the late afternoon presser, BP admits that Top Kill is a Failure. We pretty much knew this 12 hours ago.
Sillia does a great job of explaining how the Mothership concept works.
This diary, that is, the mothership, forms the hub from which you can reach the other diaries. Or, think of it as a table of contents in the front page of a book. You use this diary to find a link to the latest discussions. You can also find links here to past discussions (previous diaries) if you wanted to read them.
A 'child diary' is where the discussion is--once one of these gets so long that its size is cumbersome, they start a new one. So if you wanted to join in to the most current discussion, you'd click the most recent link. But they leave the links there so that people can still go back and read the older ones if they wish.
The reason for this setup is that it prevents the recommended list from being filled up with many diaries on the same topic. Instead just the mothership will appear on the rec list where everybody can find it, which they can use to navigate to the latest discussion. (That's why we are asked to "rec" the mothership but not the other diaries, just reduces confusion.)
I hope this is sort of what you were wanting to know...
