This is the last weekend before One Nation Working Together gathers to march on Washington in a show of solidarity for jobs, justice and education for all. From all across the country, people will join to show unity of purpose and sentiment, equal to or greater than that of the raucous right.
There have been marches, there will BE marches! Sara Haile-Mariam addressed the crowd at the One Nation Working Together press conference in New York City.
"My future will not be determined by media narratives and political rhetoric. I will not be told what we will and wiil not do. There are people across the country organizing for this march; organizing because election day is our day. On 10-2-10, you better believe that we will march and on 11-2-10, you better believe that we will vote."
On 10.2.10, I hope to be among those walking for justice, walking for equality, walking for my children's future, for my own future. Will you join us either in person or in spirit by donating to help those who can march, march for you?
I am blessed to have time. Of course, others wouldn't see it that way. I've been unemployed since October 2009 when my car broke down and I couldn't find a way from the backwoods of the Ozarks to my job at the uni. It also meant I couldn't get to classes. One simple lil catalytic converter put me in the class of unemployed and endangered my degree. I also was stuck miles from civilization and without any resources at all, save what I'd managed to hoard from my student loans. "No phone, no pool, no pets!" Friends stepped in, whisked me to Texas (not quite sure that was a blessing!), gave me a place to stay, a car to drive, and helped me get enrolled in at Texas Women's University as an online student in her last semester before graduation. In light of that, it's rather hard to ask for even more help, but I am. I have the time to march, I have the will to march, but I do not have the means to march.
At first I didn't think it would be possible to go to this march. Whilst I have the time, as an online student I carry my classes with me via Mifi, I make very little on unemployment and that all goes to paying my mortgage. I still haven't managed to replace my broken car! But I've marched in solidarity before and know the uplifting joy that can come from a crowd sharing the same vision and a joint purpose. In this electoral year of unknowns, it is more important than ever that progressives make their presence felt. I never want to go back to those lost eight years when Bush and Co. trampled the US into the ground. I needed to do this.
DiegoUK and Geenius at Wrok experienced an epiphany after discussing the march in a diary. There were many of us unlucky enough to be unable to attend due to financial restraints, but there were an equal number of us who could afford to go, but didn't have the time. ProgressiveSponsor.com was born! This site allows those who want to go to the march but need monetary assistance or a place to stay once there with donors who can't attend but want to be represented by a Kossack.
Texas is not a blue state, but I was surprised to find that there were enough progressives to charter a bus! Using the One Nation Working Together event planner, I found a bus going from the DFW area to DC.
Bus will leave Burleson area at 10AM on Friday Oct 1, arriving D.C. on Sat morning, Oct 2. Bus will take you from rally to Dulles Worldgate Marriot. The evening will be yours. We will leave at 9 AM Sunday morning Oct 3, and arrive back in Burleson around 6 AM Monday morning Oct 4. The price for this will be $275 double occupancy and $321 single. Coolers are allowed on the bus but NO GLASS. Lets have some fun and show America that the Tea Party isn't anything but a Pee Party!! Sorry I just coudn't hold it!! Bus or Car Rides to Washington, DC for the 10-2-10 Rally Please be sure to CALL the trip organizer to make sure they know you are coming and are reserving a seat for you.
I contacted Gordie, who is taking this endeavour up on his own, and found that for $235, I could take the bus only to get to the march, and then use the resources on ProgessiveSponsor.com to get a room. BUT I've got to come up with the $235 this week, or Gordie will have one less progressive on his bus. There are still seats available, by the way, for those Texas Kossacks that are considering the trip!
So I'm here to ask, if you can, please sponsor a marcher. I won't say sponsor me, cuz I'm a bit shy, but if you do have a notion to sponsor a marcher, I am kinda needy!
Please see these diaries by War On Error, DiegoUK, and OneNationWorkingTogether for more info!
