Last night I did this diary asking for your help in showing Rep. Hank Johnson how much we appreciate all he does for us. We still have about 30 minutes left in that moneybomb- and we're only a little less than $300 away from our goal- can you donate now?
What I didn't talk about last night was the overall importance of the Progressive Caucus itself.
Many of you are familiar with Rep. Raul Grijalva and all he does because he blogs here on Daily Kos often. What of other caucus members?
Well, first, I'd be remiss if I didn't say you can follow the Caucus on Twitter- @USProgressives or on Facebook US Progressives on Facebook, and soon on VisibleVote too! You can also learn a lot just by going to the CPC Website - from a list of all the members to the Progressive Promise.
Then there's the Press Center which provides nice links to news about the CPC, press releases from members, links to op-eds written by caucus members and more.
All of this is nicely done by a Communications Fellow who is funded by the amazing work of our own Darcy Burner and the organization she works for ProgressiveCongress.org.
So let's talk a little more about the Caucus. Everyone knows that while the Blue Dogs and DLC ranks in Congress got decimated in Nov., 2010, our Progressive Caucus only lost 4 members. But did you know that post election we added a new member for a net loss of just 3? Why do you think that is?
UPDATE: I've been corrected ...we've added TWO new CPC members- David Cicilline of RI-02 and Karen Bass of CA-33)
To me it's obvious. Democrats are liberals- maybe not always proud liberals, but liberals- progressives. We care about those we elect and in turn they care about us. Like CPC Whip Hank Johnson they fight for everyone every day- not just the progressives, not just the Democrats but everyone.
So it's times like these we need to take the opportunity to show them that we appreciate them. The CPC Pac was added to that ActBlue page last night in recognition of the fact that we need more Rep. Hank Johnsons, more Rep. Raul Grijalvas, more Rep. Keith Ellisons- but they can't do it without us.
So do me a favor- throw $5 in the kitty for Rep. Hank Johnson and then throw $5 in the kitty for The CPC PAC so they can help progressive candidates around the country join our heroes in Congress and so they can help keep our current crop right where they are.
