It's been two weeks since I officially launched the group (a little longer since I started it). I'm taking a short reassessment to see where I am, where the group is, and what needs changing. This is still very much a learning experience for me, so it's likely I'll be switching things up a bit, both to accommodate my own personal needs, as well as try to better improve the group's activities.
Take tonight, for example. It's been an exhausting day for me. I stayed up much later than I meant to last night reading comments, not just in last night's APC diary (in which I believe I tipped every single comment; everyone brought good thoughts to the table, I think), but also kos's announcement about the return of the Recent Diary box to the front page. Then today, with the mojo recalculation diary that garnered something approaching 1400 comments as I type this. But hey, what's a KosBuster to do? Ignore it? I don't think so! (I didn't read all the comments, though. Just most of them. I believe that makes me only slightly insane.)
And that's just time spent on this site. Off site, I don't want to go into it.
All of which is to say that I've had little time for reading diaries. Again. Which really bites. And this seems to be a chronic enough issue that I'm considering alternatives for catching diaries. I don't mind republishing diaries a day later. But I have to be able to find them first. I have a couple thoughts on this bouncing around. I'll write about them when I've thought through them more.
On the positive side, I'm already finding the group stream to be a useful addition to my diary perusal. And tonight's republished diary comes from there. On the negative side, the way the stream is currently configured, I've accidentally managed to clearly illustrate a long-standing bug in how diaries are displayed in the stream which seriously hinders the usefulness of the feature. So I'm torn between acting on my KosBuster instincts and leaving it until the problem's fixed so I can verify whether or not the fix does work, or continue tweaking so this group can function better. Considering there's no knowing when the devs will get around to addressing the issue, that makes the decision harder for me.
In any event, let's do a hard transition to a question for tonight.
If you had supreme authority over the nation for a day, what social policies would you want to enact and why? Feel free to be as idealistic or pragmatic as you prefer.
A Perfect Conversation is a group for republishing diaries that:
A) Challenge the DK conventional wisdom.
B) Provide information which may lead to new ideas.
or
C) Push for action that is innovative or not just playing defense.
The point is not to agree (or disagree) with these diaries. It's about challenging ourselves to rethink our political philosophies, activities, and issue positions.

Taxing the rich is NOT an attack on small business, as I think we'd all agree. But the right wing frame says otherwise. They're trying to reframe the debate. Let's counter their efforts and keep it real. |
