Daily Kos is a fascinating place; sort of an alternative Universe where SOMETIMES up is down, black is white and good is bad.
And where the 'best and brightest' maybe really aren't.
Recently, while listening to the ravings wise observations of some of these "best and brightest" I learned, quite remarkably, that I am similar 'exactly like' this character named "Rick Santorum"
I have found this rather amusing so I thought it would be fun to explore the comparisons.
The hilarity ensues beyond the filigree.
In comparing and, inevitably, contrasting, this Rick Santorum character we'll start with the comparisons because, despite the bullshit wise observations of those better and brighter than myself, there really isn't that much we have in common.
Now, listening to the Wise Ones, whose brilliant commentary will not be linked here - I am asking you to trust me in my assessment that these people are better and brighter because they have essentially told me so, and, really, why would they lie? - but are available for those with any urge to search it out.
Comparison
First of all, Rick and I are white male Americans between the ages of 18 and 55. We are married.
The rest of the similarities are listed here:

The Contrasts
There are a few more differences between Mr. Santorum and myself. I am concerned that I was able to generate such a list which does seem to be at some variance from the wisdom of the best and brightest. I am unsure how such minds could overlook these little facts, but I suppose they are busy professionals who have to budget their time and wisdom, as they help America be a better place to live.
One of the main differences relative to Daily Kos, is that Mr. Santorum is a Republican.
Depending on which republicans one listens too - Republicans have a proud history of diversity of opinions among themselves and they greatly value independent thought and expression - he may be a liberal democrat posing as a conservative republican or he may well be a very conservative republican. The jury is still out, it would seem.
I, on the other hand, am what is known as a "liberal Democrat", which is more or less the polar opposite of a 'conservative' republican.
In fact, I am a DFH.
While Rick and I both have hair, mine is long and sort of like a rock star. Rick has very short hair and, like most republican males, he combs his hair like a 6 year old boy.
Rick is reported to have an affinty for 'sweater vests': I find them appalling and you wouldn't catch me dead in one.
Rick is very wealthy. Not as wealthy as Mittens Romney, but a 1 percenter nonetheless. I live paycheck to paycheck, and have never made more than $50,000 in a year. Rick makes about 20 TIMES what I make.
I just assume from his personality that Rick drives a minivan. He might have a luxury car, like a BMW or a Mercedes Benz, because he is relatively well-off, but I am not sure. I drive an old, beat-up 4WD pickup truck which has been paid off for over a decade. It runs and is reliable and that's all I need.
Santorum Cares, Doc doesn't
But the best comparison is of what Rick Santorum cares about and I don't.
Rick cares about your sexual orientation. He cares deeply about your genitals, where they go, what they do, whom they do it with. He cares whether you are a "homosexual" or not; a "lesbian" or not.
I don't.
I just don't care about your 'sexual orientation'. I just don't. It is none of my business and I have no time or energy to waste getting my knickers in a bunch about who does what to whom. And, as a psychotherapist I have a fairly good sense of boundaries. I am NOT going there.
Rick thinks that gay people are somehow "bad" and he says mean things about them.
I don't.
Again, I have no idea where he gets this nonsense. It's pretty damned evil if you ask me. IF you ask me, and don't just assume.
Rick wants to make laws that negatively impact gay people and it seems that he thinks it is ok to hurt them.
I don't.
In fact, I actually try to help out when I can, even though I may not totally understand all the nuances that come with this complex issue; and when I can't understand, I ask for help.
I imagine the Rick cares quite a bit about your race: I imagine he cares more about whether you are white or not. I am certain he cares if you are brown-skinned and where you might be from.
I don't.
In fact, I like racial diversity and I believe that it actually improves the quality of my life and all our lives. It certainly improves your grocery stores, should you be fortunate enough to live in an adequately diverse area.
Rick Santorum thinks, as all republicans are expected to, that "marijuana" is somehow a really bad thing, somehow worse than terrorism. One can expect Rick to maintain the status quo on this under-appreciated issue.
I don't.
In fact, I have more then enough evidence to prove him wrong in his mis-guided assertions. Marijuana is a very useful plant that provides more than an enjoyable smoking experience, has numerous, untapped medical potentials, as well as is a source of jobs and various raw products, but let us not digress: nobody cares about this.
In the end, I think I can establish, conversely from a few of the sites more enlightened and educated thinkers, that I am not really like this Santorum guy at all.
Because Rick Perry Santorum cares.
And I don't.
I so hope this can clear up any misconceptions.
