GUS doesn't do politics but today is VOTE day so I'm taking a bit of liberty without permission to do a bit of GOTV stuff. I still believe we can make a difference even though not as much as we want. Same with smoking and other addictions. We do the best we can. I promise, I have included good music (if you are an old fart like I am.) Blessings and VOTE and GOTV.
Good morning, GUSvoters!!!!!!! You may already have voted or, like me, voting on voting day. First -- anyone know why the Founders thought Tuesday was an excellent voting day? I know why not Sunday and they weren't really thinking about the Jewish Sabbath -- so why, in an agrarian society for most folks, was Tuesday picked? It is stupid unless a national holiday with a mandatory vote while being paid if you have to work day.
Ok, so, until the clock runs out, our job is to GOTV. Especially in the states controlled by scumbags like Kansas with the Worst Secretary of State in the Nation. He needs to go down big time.
So, not just Wisconsin, let's get into the mood with the Dropkick Murphy anthem for rights everywhere. Don't forget the power of the Wisconsonites -- FORWARD!!!!

A message to ALL quitters. You don't have to avoid GUS if you have a failed quit. We won't give you a bad time and we consider the failed quits as "practice" for the real quit.

Chipotle Stuffed Pork Tenderloin
Gotta be a Democratic recipe because yogurt is involved!
Ingredients
1 pork tenderloin (a little less than a pound)
1 tablespoon chipotle chilies in adobo sauce, chopped
1/2 tablespoon of the adobo sauce
3 tablespoons plain whole-milk yogurt
1/2 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 tablespoon cumin seeds
Canola oil
Salt
Procedures
Place the pork on a cutting board. Make one large cut length-wise almost through the tenderloin, leaving about half an inch connected.
Sprinkle with a pinch of salt. Then smear the chipotle chilies inside, covering as much as possible. Close the tender loin up, press firmly to help the two sides adhere with the chipotle paste. Season the outside of the pork with salt.
In a large bowl, combine the yogurt, olive oil, cumin, and the adobo sauce. Whisk until combined. Brush the tenderloin with some of the sauce.
Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Spray the grill with canola oil. Then grill the tenderloin for about 10 minutes per side, or until its internal temperature reaches 145ºF. Brush with more of the sauce occasionally, especially after it is flipped halfway through.
Slice into medallions, season with more salt if needed, and serve.
18th Century Election Day Cake
Ingredients
2 packages active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water (105° to 115° degrees F)
1/2 cup lukewarm milk (scalded, then cooled)
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (divided in two parts: 1 1/2 cups, then 1 3/4 cups)
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon mace
1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup raisins
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon vanilla
3 tablespoons milk
Procedures
Dissolve yeast in water. Stir in milk. Add 1 1/2 cups flour gradually, until mixture is smooth. Cover and let rise in warm place until very light and bubbly, 30 to 45 minutes.
Mix together 1 3/4 cups flour, salt and spices and set aside. Chop raisins, mix with nuts and set aside. Cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating after each addition. Blend in yeast mixture. Gradually add dry ingredients, beating until smooth after each addition Add raisin-pecan mixture and mix well.
Grease and flour a standard angel food pan or large bundt pan. Pour mixture into prepared pan.
Cover and let rise in a warm place until dough almost reaches the top, 1 1/2-2 hours. When ready to bake, preheat oven to 350 degrees. Bake cake until golden brown, 40-50 minutes. Cool 10 minutes in pan, then loosen cake from edges with a knife. Turn out onto a cake rack and cool completely.
Don't forget when we really did vote to make certain changes and many happened. Pete Seeger has been with some of us for over 50 years and those of us who are old farts are seasoned, know disappointment up the ying yang but still vote. This scene of joyous celebration by folks who never thought they'd see the day a Black man or woman would be elected still inspires me. VOTE!!!! Nobody perfect will ever be in the White House. But evil can be. VOTE!!!! And sing along.
If you've never seen the movie "Harold and Maude" rent it. It is utterly brilliant. Hilariously anti-war. Gorgeously pro joy. RIP Ruth Gordon. She was amazing as Maude.
And hopefully for those of us who are oldsters and those of you youngsters, we'll see this happen in our remaining lifetimes if we VOTE!!!!!! Just don't "stay home tonight (or today)."
Cohen just celebrated his 80th birthday and I just learned that the reason he's been on a 6 year concert tour is because his scumbag manager embezzled. Asshat. I love Cohen. He really is a genius.
And another Cat Stevens -- (that was his name at the time) in addition to the Harold and Maude -- and he was and is so adorable. We need this no matter who is President or in Congress:
Why we need to VOTE!!!!! flumpty and I were kids when this song was popular and nothing has changed. So VOTE!!!!!
Joni Mitchell -- genius
Much love to all my GUS friends. I so love I have your amazing souls, humanity, beauty.
