OK, so I didn't do much on my house since last month's diary. My son, his wife and 2 daughters have been visiting from Chile where they live (he owns a successful restaurant in Santiago) For those who don't know, this is why I go to Chile every year, for the past 6 years.
So today will be Bloopers Day---basically fuckups and weirdities I have encountered in my 9+ years here in this house in Wonderful, Oregon.
Marilyn Lips:
These Marilyn lips were on at least 6 doors in this house. You explain them, I can't.
See this junky old trailer and old outhouse? it took me 3 years to get these gone.
Before:
After:
I replaced most of th outlets, changing them from White to ivory. almost all of them were this way---wires protruding at most 1/2" from the box. If you ever see this you know FOR SURE whoever did it didn't know what he was doing. Anybody who knows electricity knows this is incredible, hair pulling stupidity
See this little piece of trim up at the top? That was there all by itself, there's nothing else that even relates to it. Just there by itself:
Ever see a support post that was sitting ON TOP of a carpet? Now you have.
Baseboard so stupid it was painful to look at:
Doors were hung ON TOP of the carpet:
These stairs had no railing, were just sitting on top of the carpet:
The degree of "finish" of the stairs:
The plumbing was on a match with the electrical:
Much of the interior trim was nailed with #16 finish nails yet there was barely a hammermark:
The screen door is square. The square is square. the door is not square.
You don't often see a roof ridge like this:
well, that's enough for now. As you can see, Fixin' stupid is a never ending battle.
What are you working on?
