Comments and Diaries Disappear
To recover your text after it disappears, be prepared. Before submitting a comment or publishing a diary, Select All and Copy.
Use these keyboard shortcuts:
Windows
Ctrl + A, Ctrl + C
Mac
Command + A, Command + C
When you lose your comment or diary, you will be able to immediately paste the text and images where they belong. (Also see Lazarus, below.)
Kosmail Messages Disappear, Jam, Hang, and Repeat
Again, before Sending a kosmail, Select All and Copy using the above shortcuts. If you lose your kosmail message, you will be able to immediately paste the text where it belongs.
If your kosmail message jams and hangs with only the bottom half of the message visible on your monitor or device, and you see the Send button, which you have already clicked, and you are tempted to click Send again, don’t touch that button!
If you get a browser message that says “This webpage is not available,” don’t touch that button!
Instead, check your kosmail inbox. You will likely see your message added to or as the top thread in your refreshed inbox. If you do see the message in your inbox, you will not have to click Send again. Just close the faulty tab.
By checking for the messages in your DK inbox, you can protect your friends from the scourge of multiple kosmails. ;o)
An App to recover lost text: Lazarus
Lazarus is an app designed to recover text in Chrome and Firefox. Lazarus recreates lost text. I highly recommend it:
Automatically save data as you type in Chrome or Firefox with Lazarus
Since I use Lazarus, if I lose text for any reason, I do the following:
- Re-open the same form (a text-input box such as a diary box, a comment box, or a kosmail text box).
- Click the Lazarus icon in the upper right corner of the box.
- Select the correct text from the drop-down menu.
- Voila! The text returns to your text form.
Incidentally, even if you shut down your computer, Lazarus will save the text. In addition, Lazarus saves the WYSIWYG images of DK5 very well.
Fine print
All these tips work on my Desktop PC. Not responsible for other gizmos.
Sometimes messages repeat for no apparent reason. I have nothing to offer about that long-term issue. Sorry.
I have no idea how long these diary, comment, and kosmail issues might irritate us. The excellent DK tech staff could fix these issues soon.

2thanks’ current project empowers Kossacks to create sig lines in Daily Kos 5.
Several Kossacks offered tips in that story and contributed to the creation of this light-orange colored box with black frame and links. You could make a sig line by copying this box and stripping out the text. (See How to Create Sig Lines for more details.)
