Want to post a diary that will be read by a supportive group, one with kossacks who will help you get your diary ready (if needed) and even hang out with you after it's posted? Well, there are lots of groups at Daily Kos that post diaries as part of a regular series, and this diary contains a list of such groups as well as some tips to get you started.
In JaxDem's New Diarists Open Thread: Testing, Testing 123 Testing...is this mic on?, blue jersey mom suggested:
My 2 cents here. If you want your diary to be seen, it helps to publish in a diary series. With a series like MOT, you have an established audience.
As so often happens with good ideas, that comment grew into a thread, with
blue jersey mom,
JaxDem,
Melanie in IA,
smileycreek,
Ojibwa, and
JanF suggesting various groups that would work with New Diarists.
JaxDem then began compiling a list and posted it to our New Diarists group queue, inviting others to add to the list. Meanwhile, suggestions for groups continued to flow in Melanie in IA's How to be a Good Diary Host from Steveningen, CJB, Ojibwa, and, last but never least, Nurse Kelley.
The table that follows contains a list of groups/series that will work with New Diarists. Thanks to a tip from belinda ridgewood, who knows all sorts of geeky tricks, all links in this diary have been formatted so that they will open in a new tab.

H/T to everyone mentioned above for their group/series suggestions, and especially to
JaxDem for taking the initiative to get this list started. This list is a work-in-progress, so please suggest additions and, of course, point out any corrections that I need to make.
ETA (sorry, don't know how I lost this part): Many regularly posted series rely on volunteer or guest hosts and post a sign-up sheet in the comments. If you think you're interested in any of these groups/series, my advice would be to hang out in some of those diaries, reading, rec'ing, and commenting. Get to know folks in the group and give them a chance to get to know you. Then take the plunge and sign up for a date to host. Here's an example of how this works.
And here's an excellent diary explaining the in's and out's of joining and following groups: A KosBusters! Help Series - Groups: Joining or Following; That is the Question.
To date, members of the New Diarists group have posted many well-received diaries, and we're planning on many more. If you have questions about working with groups or posting diaries, feel free to ask them in this diary. As always, experienced kossacks are welcome to post advice for New Diarists as well.
New Diarists is a safe place to practice diary writing skills with a mentor's guiding hand. Experienced diarists are invited to join and buddy up with new diarists, and new diarists are welcome to join and to ask for help. The group's Publication Manager provides a space where we can collaborate on diaries and help with everything from revising to formatting to promoting your new diary.
How-to and Help diaries, such as smileycreek's New Diarists: How to Collaborate with Us on a Diary, will be published to the New Diarists group. Visit our home page and click on the little ♥ to follow us.
Ready to play? Send a private message to nomandates for an invitation to join the group.
