earicicle's quilt, a detail
Our fellow Kossack, DarkHawk98, has been fighting lung cancer. He's been keeping his friends in the Monday Night Cancer Club abreast of his experiences with treatment, most recently for pneumonia in the lung that does not have cancer. The people at MNCC felt that the community support of a quilt would be a good thing for DarkHawk98 -- and my sister and I are so pleased to make one for him. Community support matters, as DarkHawk98 says, himself:
But some of the more important lessons for me are that I do have real and significant limitations that have been imposed on me by illness (both my cancer and the pneumonia); that recovery happens only with hard work and being a good patient and lastly, that family and friends are really wonderful to have surrounding you all the time especially when you are in crisis.
Lastly, when you are handed a barrel of lemons (instead of the usual bag) it just means that now you can make lemonade for more people than EVER could have imagined. winks
earicicle's quilt
Community quilts contain messages of love and support from you to someone facing illness or other hardship. Leave a short message in the comments below and I will transcribe it on muslin in archival ink. Your message will become part of a colorful quilt for DarkHawk98, something he can rest under at home or take with him to treatment. We are told that these quilts are actually very handy in a hospital setting because they let the hospital staff know that this person has community behind him or her -- and this can make for more attentive care.

It takes time and material to make the quilts. If you would like to contribute toward DarkHawk98's quilt, here is a PayPal link -- or message me for an address if you prefer to send a check. $10/message is suggested -- although some give more to cover messages for those who cannot afford to donate.
