Once again, Sen. Mitch McConnell is trying to bail out House Speaker John Boehner. McConnell and Minority Leader Reid have just agreed to—and passed by voice vote—a
one-week funding extension.
Since Boehner decided to skip the funding option that would most certainly pass easily for him—accepting the Senate's clean, bipartisan bill and passing it with Democratic votes, a short-term funding bill was his only option, or at least the only one his problem children will agree to.
Possibly. He thought he had the votes this afternoon, and look what happened then.
5:44 PM PT: Here we are, folks.
The Senate has adjourned until Monday. Either the House passes the 7 day DHS CR or there is a funding lapse

And we come back in a week—with the House schedule to go on recess after next week—and do it all over again.
5:50 PM PT: And the hard-liners ready to fight:
Sitting on the House floor to prevent any bill from the Senate from passing by unanimous consent by voice vote.

6:02 PM PT:
So Pelosi has released the Democrats to vote for this. Will Boehner take her up on that?
