In an article posted from Greenville, SC, written by CNN Senior Digital Correspondent, Chris Moody, CNN trumpets a …
simple question, but one that stops Republican presidential hopefuls in their tracks: Who do you think is the greatest president alive today?
Well, duh. Of course they aren’t going to pick one of the three living Democrats. And they run like hell from Bush I and II. Who wouldn’t?! So they want to harken to Reagan, as if he were a political Elvis, never to be denied.

My question is, what does this cowardly trend say about how they would govern? Aside from the hypocrisy, what does it tell us about them as prospective leaders? Precious little. Yes, there is a bit of Schadenfreude, seeing them abandon and run from those they touted as champions, at the time, but all I can think of is how it is a clear example of the media abdicating its responsibility to publish ILLUMINATING information.
I only had a short time to write this diary, and I can’t begin to scratch the surface of questions I could ask them that I KNOW would be stumpers for them. Because there are a gazillion questions they can’t honestly answer, if they hope to get elected. And getting elected is the highest goal for any Republican. Not meaningful governing. Just obtaining and consolidating power.
What is the benefit of any given governmental (fill in the blank) action (for the environment, say. Or to combat climate change/sea level rise? Things like that.)?
Then, see the blank looks on their faces. Then, see the looks of sheer disdain and contempt, as they experience, first, puzzlement, over why the fuck they should ever care about benefit, and, then, disgust with the idea of wasting time with such speculation. Because they've spent their entire lives caring only about advantage, never benefit. They don't give a damn about what might be best for the people or the country. They care solely about power. Entitlement for the 1%. What can help them toward that end? Everything else is irrelevant and uninteresting.
If you want to stump them, ask about benefit. By their faces shall ye know them. Their faces will tell truths their mouths never will. It is a testament to the bankruptcy of the Republican brand, of the individuals who make up that party.
And if the benefit stumper isn't enough, ask them what they would plan to do to help with (fill in the blank). And see the look on their face that says, why the fuck would anyone ever want to help with THAT?! Whether it is education, or pollution, or corporate corruption, or medical care for children, or the elderly, or retired soldiers, or women, or obstacles being placed in the way of the right to vote, or marital equality, or global warming, or minority relations or equal opportunity ... There just isn’t anything they want to ‘help’ with that will truly benefit people outside the 1%. And, narrow as the brand is, it is only narrowing further. Day by day. Week by week.
C’mon, media. If you want real stumpers for those jerks, kosmail me. Kosmail any of us. We’ll be happy to help you do your jobs. Speaking for myself, you don’t even have to credit me with providing the questions. Or just think about your responsibility to the citizens of this country. And try some imagination for once.
Thanks for reading! On to tonight’s comments, formatted by my fine friend and role model, brillig!
Brillig's ObDisclaimer: The decision to publish each nomination lies with the evening's Diarist and/or Comment Formatter. My evenings at the helm, I try reeeeallllyy hard to publish everything without regard to content. I really do, even when I disagree personally with any given nomination. "TopCommentness" lies in the eyes of the nominator and of you, the reader - I leave the decision to you. I do not publish self-nominations (ie your own comments) and if I ruled the world, we'd all build community, supporting and uplifting instead of tearing our fellow Kossacks down.
From Krotor: Dancing Frog's comment in Kerry Eleveld's diary Earth to Jeb!: Not supporting the freedom to marry IS discriminatory perfectly sums up the absurdity of the arguments by florists and others against providing products and services to gay weddings
From The Marti:
On a decidedly unfunny topic this comment by AnacharsisClootz tickled me! The diary by librarisingnsf is well worth reading, too.
