A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

If you were a superhero, which superhero would you be and why?
This is an easy one for me
Dr. Reed Richards, Scientist (aka Mr. Fantastic and leader of the Fantastic Four)
Mister Fantastic at Wikipedia
Mister Fantastic (Reed Richards) is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The character is a founding member of the Fantastic Four. Richards possesses a mastery of mechanical, aerospace and electrical engineering, chemistry, all levels of physics, and human and alien biology. BusinessWeek listed Mr. Fantastic as one of the top ten most intelligent fictional characters in American comics.[1] He is the inventor of the spacecraft that was bombarded by cosmic radiation on its maiden voyage, granting the Fantastic Four their powers. Richards gained the ability to stretch his body into any shape he desires.
Richards acts as the leader and father figure of the Fantastic Four, although in recent years he has increasingly been portrayed as being cold and distant towards his teammates due to his scientific, methodical nature. This is particularly true with his best friend, Ben Grimm, who partially blames Richards for his transformation into a large, rocky creature called the Thing. Whenever Richards is confronted with a challenge, his attention can be so focused that he can neglect even his own family. Regardless, he is the loving husband of Susan Storm, father of son Franklin Richards and daughter Valeria Richards, and mentor of his brother-in-law, Johnny Storm.
He was first speculated,[2] and later confirmed to be on the autistic spectrum.[3]
Since I discovered comic books as a kid, I always identified with Mr. Fantastic for two reasons.
First, I was always accused (and mocked) for using "big words." In my first forays into The First Family of Marvel Comics was Benjamin J. Grimm (The Thing) teasing Mr. fantastic (his best friend) for using incomprehensible scientific terminology. Grimm would often ask him to "explain it in English" or something of that sort and those same request were made of me, at times.
Secondly, I have a condition commonly referred to as "double-jointed" or, to use a more medical term for it, "hypermobility."
Hypermobility describes joints that stretch further than normal. For example, some hypermobile people can bend their thumbs backwards to their wrists, bend their knee joints backwards, put their leg behind the head or perform other contortionist "tricks". It can affect one or more joints throughout the body. When present in the hands, it is colloquially referred to as "double-jointedness".
While my entire physical body can be fairly described as "flexible," hypermobility is confined to my elbows. At any given moment, I can stretch and do this:
So that, for example, well into my teenage years, if I was locked out of my aunts house, I was able to get into her house by using my flexibility and hypermobility to slide my medium-sized frame through her milk-chute (and I have never been skinny).
More often, though, I would hyperextend unconsciously in class or play and it would elicit catcalls of being a "freak" from my classmates. At times, I was asked to give demonstrations to other classmates who had heard descriptions of my hypermobility but had never seen it and didn't believe it.
On the occasions when I slip into hypermobility mode, it can still elicit "icky" reactions from others.
And, in a way, reading the monthly adventures of Dr. Reed Richards using his "hypermobility" and facility of "big words" to save the universe from the likes of Victor Von Doom or Galactus helped me to cope.

The entire state of Colorado has almost 50,000 subscribers to our Daily Kos emails. We can't wait to tap into that more. We've got a lot of organizing ahead of us for Colorado. Leaders, please step up!
We've declared this road trip a great success and look forward to doing some more around the country. It's important to unite entire states in addition to cities and towns. I hope you'll contribute in some way to this effort.
