Yep, it's one of those days. When sardonyx asked me if I could take Top Comments tonight, I said "sure", even though I didn't know what I'd write about.
Well, here it is, 90 minutes to post time, and my brain is one big empty blank. All I seem to be able to think about is the chili I made and am eating as I type. This does make me a bit curious, though - what's in the dinner pot at your house tonight? I realize that I'm on Mountain Standard Time (all year round), and that you East Coasters have likely already eaten your dinners, but what the heck. Tell us anyway.
As a poster on another board said earlier, "Usually I forget that dinner is something that happens every day and we end up eating crap." I may resemble this remark. It actually is not really helpful when Rich inquires "so what are we having for dinner tonight?" at EIGHT AM.
Every night, we who post Top Comments peer anxiously into the Gmail inbox at TopComments AT gmail DOT com to see our "gifts" - comments of the day as chosen by you. Some days are diamonds, and we get lots of comments. The best of days, our submitters also get their comments in by the deadline of 9:30 Eastern time, tell us who they are, and tell us why they liked the comment they are submitting. We really like that.
Like I always say, we could not do Top Comments without you.
tl:dr - Comments to TopComments AT gmail DOT com by 9:30 PM Eastern with your DKos username and a good link. Commentary optional, but preferred.
So, today, I actually planned ahead, and took the ground beef out of the freezer to thaw. There's a big Oriental market here called Lee Lee's, and one cool thing about their meats is that they label for country of origin. So my ground beef is from the USA - and it was very inexpensive.
The rest of the chili ingredients mostly came from Food City, which carries a LOT of Mexican and Mexican-style foods. It's not a Mexican market, however. It's a subsidiary of the Basha's food stores, and the prices are a lot lower there, as a general rule. For a treat, I picked up two regular Mexican Cokes the other night, and drinking that took me back in time. Back to before corn syrup became the liquid sweetener of choice.
Anyway, I have rambled enough. Let's go look at the comments, shall we?
From cameoanne:
Nominating MrJayTee's comment in response to Voodoo king's perfect setup in Th0rn;s diary Obama Envoy To Mubarak Works For...Mubarak.
From kalmoth:
With this comment, benintn effectively rebuts an over-the-top rhetorically and sparse-on-facts diary.
From KelleyRN2:
This hysterical comment by PBen in today's pootie diary needs no set-up.
From blueoregon:
I'd like to nominate Hollowdweller's comment in BabetheBlueOx' diary today. The left needs to learn to message better.
From belinda ridgewood:
Okay, the Cranky Users have a question: can a comment on DK4 beta be a top comment? Because we think this comment from enhydra lutris, in the DK4 version of KelleyRN2's Cranky Users diary, is laden with topness, even though (perhaps because) it is rather cranky.
Editor: Yes. DK4 is inexorably coming, and all TC will be DK4 TC's soon enough.
My picks:
Desert Scientist shares the rationale behind supply side economics. Yeah, we knew it, but it bears repeating.
How to get the most use out of a plastic grocery bag? athenap tells us.
ridemybike's Reagan rant brought tears to my eyes.
