Food meshes with politics in all kinds of unexpected ways. There is the government regulation of food, via FDA and USDA. There is government policy with respect to farmers, with the purchase of commodities, with export and trade agreements, with school lunches. There is a social justice component, buying fair trade foods where farmers and farm workers earn a living wage, as well as food security for people in all nations. There are the health aspects, with obesity and diabetes becoming more prevalent. There is the concern about GMOs and pesticides and additives. And then, there's just a rockin' good recipe.
