Obama calls GOP Medicare, spending plans 'radical'

"I think it's fair to say that their vision is radical," Obama told a town hall gathering at the headquarters of Facebook, the huge social network company.
"I don't think it's particularly courageous," he said of the GOP plan to convert Medicare to a voucher program and make big cuts to the federal-state Medicaid program for the poor.

"Nothing is easier than solving a problem on the backs of people who are poor, or people who are powerless, or don't have lobbyists, or don't have clout," Obama said.

Kerry Eleveld reports that there's a plan and a timetable for repealing "Don't Ask, Don't Tell":

Repealing "don’t ask, don’t tell" will likely be included as part of next year’s Department of Defense authorization bill in both chambers of Congress, Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA) said Wednesday.

"Military issues are always done as part of the overall authorization bill," Frank said, insisting that this has been the strategy for overturning the policy all along. "'Don’t ask, don’t tell' was always going to be part of the military authorization."

Edwards Deal or no Deal

Sometime after the South Carolina debate Plouffe got a call from a senior Edwards Advisor who said Edwards was willing to announce the end of his campaign and join forces with Obama to defeat Clinton. When Plouffe asked if he could raise this with Obama the Edwards advisor said, "Yes....Just to be clear we’re going to talk to the Clinton people too. That’s not where John’s heart is, but he is at the point of maximum leverage now." "Obama’s answer," Plouffe writes, "was quick and firm: he would cut no deals."

Nancy Pelosi responding incredulously when asked, for the first time, about a National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman's call for a general to put her "in her place" on the Afghanistan war.

"It's really sad, they just don't know how inappropriate that is," she told reporters during her weekly presser on Thursday morning.

"I'm in my place. I'm the Speaker of the House, the first woman Speaker of the House and I'm in my place because the House of Representatives vote me here. But that language is something I haven't even heard in decades."
