A Boeing 747-400 freighter owned by UPS has crashed near a Dubai highway. Eyewitness’s described a scene of devastation shortly after witnessing the plane crashing near a highway, Emirates Road at about 8PM local time.

Many feed their pets a raw diet in the hope of more closely matching the ideal diet for their pet's health. I normally don't do this here, but this is an emergency dog rescue situation.

A puppy mill northeast of St. Louis, MO has dumped 98 dogs. The dogs have less than two weeks to be rescued (if that) before they are put down. Help is desperately needed from the northern Missouri, southern Iowa, western Illinois area.

Only official Rescue organizations are urged to contact the people mentioned in the body of the diary directly via the provided phone numbers and e-mail addresses. The diarist has no other information than what is in this diary.

If you can't help directly with the dogs, they are also asking for donations of funds via Paypal for buying/sponsoring/donating dog crates, and gas to transport the dogs to rescue organizations. Volunteer drivers are urgently needed as well. A dump this size isn't all that unusual anymore and they are becoming more and more common due to the economy.

Note: Central Illinois Sheltie Rescue has stepped up to rescue the three Shelties.

May all puppy/kitten millers rot in Hell for what they do to these poor animals.

I usually spend my Saturdays like most people do - trying to get everything done at home that was neglected during the week. You know, laundry, car repair appointments, fix the $%^$& lawn mower, etc.

I was in the back yard trying to coax my used lawn mower out of winter hibernation, quite unsuccessfully, when I noticed the large house across the street from me had been decorated in red/white/blue banners and helium balloons...

Sounds like a bad movie title, doesn't it? However, this storm is eerily like Kim Stanley Robinson's novels about climate change, the "Science in the Capital" series. It is comprised of three novels: "Forty Signs of Rain" (2004), "Fifty Degrees Below" (2005), and "Sixty Days and Counting" (2007).

I just came across Justin Fox's blog post about the Citizen's United vs. Federal Election Commission this morning on the Harvard Business Review board. He compares Justice Roberts' recent ruling to what Milton Friedman had to say about corporations and comes to the compellingly-reasoned conclusion that Justice Roberts' reasoning is fatally and dangerously flawed.

I decided to expand a post I made under the ShelterBox Donation thread to explain what goes into an operation like the airlift of aid into Haiti today.

Airline ground operations are complex, equipment intensive and require trained people. It's not like going out and unloading a U-Haul truck. Specialized equipment and training is mandatory for servicing large civil aircraft.
