I loved school.
From the moment Mrs. Ashby patted me on the head the first day of kindergarten to the day I graduated with honors from the University of Utah as a young mother. Then, after two decades of working in fashion retail I enrolled at our local community college to improve my computer skills and learn web and digital art design. Those classes changed my life and I use those valuable assets everyday.
I could be a professional student.
I'm dying to enroll in a ceramics throwing class. Not to learn, I already did that, but to have access to the wheels and kilns. If I could only find the time.
However, the class that ultimately changed my life was during my youth at the University of Utah. Evolution 101. It made so much sense. I accepted it instantly. The class burned off the fog of my religious upbringing that was based on generations of non-sensical myths. You could only survive with these beliefs if you had faith. The class provided evidence. Not a promise of going to heaven if you believed a book that said Adam was the first man. The clincher was the professor. He was in deep-red Utah but his presentation was kind and friendly to all students. He was warm and generous with his time. He made a difference in my life. I will always respectfully remember moments like when I learned about fossils and the living fossil that is the nautilus and the extinct ammonite.
Amazing information.
What was your favorite class you enjoyed in school?
