A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.
If you are new to the site or have been lurking, we invite you to join in the friendly banter here. Don’t be shy, say anything, it will be well received.

Every so often I see something on the intertubes that just makes me laugh. I saw a video where a couple guys had just upgraded a Dodge Challenger Hellcat so they could get the maximum horsepower out of the thing. This car is the fastest production car ever made. You can get one for around $60,000.
The numbers: 840 horsepower; 770 lb-ft of torque—the world's most powerful production car V8 engine. 2.3 seconds 0-60 (world's fastest for a production car), 5.1 seconds to 100 mph. Quarter-mile: 9.65 seconds at 140 mph, the world's fastest production car quarter-mile, as certified by the NHRA. In fact, that's so dang fast, Dodge says the car is "officially banned by the NHRA" for being too quick for a production car to run at a drag strip without a cage.
For another $11,000 you can boost the power of the Hellcat to beyond rediculous and obscene levels. I suppose you can then drive it so fast it will escape the earth’s gravity and you can go to the moon.
The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat are a couple of the quickest, fastest and most powerful production cars in the world, but if you “need” an extra 793 horsepower from your modern Mopar muscle car – Savage Street Cars in Houston, Texas can lift the output of your Hellcat Hemi to 1,500 horsepower for less than $11k installed.
OK, this is what put a smile on my face. These guys were making their video from inside a Hellcat accelerating along a road. They were showing just how fast it accelerates (2.3 seconds from 0-60!) when a woman on a Suzuki Hayabusa just blows them away. The Hayabusa was until very recently the fastest production motorcycle on earth. It reaches a top speed of 194 mph. I know Harley riders look down at Japanese motorcycles derisively calling them “rice burners,” but all of the fastest motorcycles in the world are Japanese (Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki).
I like everything about this video from the fact she just blows them away to the fact they had no idea she had to be right behind them and as soon as they took off she did the same, and especially the reaction these dudes had to it (warning: these guys talk like a couple of young dudes. Please don’t be offended by that. I just liked how enthusiastic they were about it all).
I’ve never owned a muscle car, though growing up I thought they were cool. Everyone did. My favorite muscle cars were all Dodges or Plymouths. They looked cool and held up better than Chevy’s. Ford wasn’t known for muscle cars nearly as much as Chrysler and GMC cars.
Currently, I own the fastest and most agile car I’ve ever had. It’s a Subaru WRX with a 2.0-liter engine. It has 268 hp and 258 ft-pds of torque and gets just under 30 miles per gallon on average (both street and highway driving in my case). It’s the first car I’ve had that has no “roll” whatsoever when you change lanes as fast as you want to. It’s as though the thing just hops without an iota of sway. I enjoy the good gas mileage and rabbit fast instincts of this car. There will be no muscle cars in my future, don't worry.
What do you want to talk about today?
