Well, it’s been very interesting Trump/Russia land this week.
Donald Jr. spoke behind closed doors — after sneaking in via the loading dock to avoid reporters — with Senate Judiciary staffers for five hours and admitted that the first original statement claiming his meeting with a former Government Lawyer from Russia and her lobbyist/hacker pal who likes to brag about having links to Russian intelligence was about “adoption” was a total and complete lie because the meeting was really about trying to obtain negative information about Hillary Clinton and determine her “fitness for office.” He says he didn’t get the information so “nothing happened” and that he never told his father about it, and he doesn’t know how Trump or the White House decided to put out the “adoption” statement. He also admitted to speaking with Russian pop star Emin Agalarov on the phone three times before the meeting, but couldn’t recall the content of any of those conversations. All of this tells us is that he’s nearly as much of know-nothing as Jared Kushner claimed to be when he was previously interviewed by Senate staffers in July. So naturally Senator Feinstein has sworn that Junior will testify before Judiciary committee “come hell or high water.”
Meanwhile Special Counsel Robert Mueller has requested to interview nearly all the White House staffers including Hope Hicks and Reince Preibus who were involved in drafting the false Don Jr. statement on Air Force One.
It’s been revealed that Russia bought $150,000 worth of Facebook ads of false news stories which were specifically targeted to discourage and/or split the democratic vote. Fake user accounts setup by the St. Petersburg troll farm were then used to spread these ads and get them directly into the feeds of unsuspecting voters who thought this false news was being forward by real Americans. Perhaps they did that because after the Don Jr. meeting Paul Manafort reportedly asked the Russians for “Help.”
In addition to this the Mueller investigation has interviewed former Sputnik News correspondent Andrew Feinburg about what types of things the Kremlin ordered him to do including get copies of emails stolen from the CIA director.
While this is going on Devin Nunez seems to be running a ratfucking operation on the Mueller investigation by issuing subpoenas to the FBI and DOJ about the Steele Dossier to see if any surveillance was ordered based on it’s allegations, even though the DOJ has officially stated that Obama never even tried to “Wiretap Trump Tower.”
There are now Russian government officials openly admitting and bragging on TV that “of course we have [compromising information on Trump]” and that they helped “elect the president of the U.S.A.”
Yeah, but Steven Bannon went on 60 Minutes to say the “Russia investigation is a farce” so let’s just forget the whole thing, right?
Here’s Rachel Maddow on Don Jr with the Senate.
And Rachel on Mueller’s request to interview White House Staff.
Here’s a bit more about the Troll Farm from the NYTimes with a report by Lawrence O’Donnel.
The Russian information attack on the election did not stop with the hacking and leaking of Democratic emails or the fire hose of stories, true, false and in between, that battered Mrs. Clinton on Russian outlets like RT and Sputnik. Far less splashy, and far more difficult to trace, was Russia’s experimentation on Facebook and Twitter, the American companies that essentially invented the tools of social media and, in this case, did not stop them from being turned into engines of deception and propaganda.
An investigation by The New York Times, and new research from the cybersecurity firm FireEye, reveals some of the mechanisms by which suspected Russian operators used Twitter and Facebook to spread anti-Clinton messages and promote the hacked material they had leaked. On Wednesday, Facebook officials disclosed that they had shut down several hundred accounts that they believe were created by a Russian company linked to the Kremlin and used to buy $100,000 in ads pushing divisive issues during and after the American election campaign.
On Twitter, as on Facebook, Russian fingerprints are on hundreds or thousands of fake accounts that regularly posted anti-Clinton messages. Many were automated Twitter accounts, called bots, that sometimes fired off identical messages seconds apart — and in the exact alphabetical order of their made-up names, according to the FireEye researchers. On Election Day, for instance, they found that one group of Twitter bots sent out the hashtag #WarAgainstDemocrats more than 1,700 times.
This is several steps beyond stealing information from the DNC and John Podesta — this is illegally spending money — advertising funds — to specifically impact U.S. voters. And from all we can tell, it probably worked.
As we all know many people, particularly in Trumpland, don’t trust the mainstream media. They openly mock, troll and threaten the staff and families of CNN. Many people are getting what they think, conspiratorially, is the “Real” news that the Mainstream Media — the Liberal Media, the “Liberal Jew” Media — is secretly hiding from them.
Those people were perfectly vulnerable to the lies of this troll farm.
And they still are, and they still don’t even know it yet because frankly CNN themselves aren’t really hip to this aspect of what happened during the election last year, and those guys don’t watch MSNBC.
