Creation of the Connie Hansen Garden in Lincoln City, Oregon, began in 1973 when botanist Constance P. Hansen bought a small lot—a little more than an acre—to grow her favorite plant, the Iris. For the next 20 years she labored to create this special amazing place. Following her death in 1993, the Connie Hansen Garden Conservancy was formed by volunteers to purchase the garden and maintain her creation.
According to the brochure:
“As a botanist, Connie Hansen knew plants intimately; as an artist, she created a delightful arrangement of colors and textures.”
According to the brochure:
“Explore the acre and a quarter of winding paths beneath the canopy of ornamental trees, where beds of shade loving hosta, hellebores and primeroses grow. Bridges cross the creek, leading you past iris beds into the East Garden, with its stone wall, sunny rock garden and colorful heather berms. Mature rhododendrons surround the perennial flower beds, glowing in the sun. This is a botanist’s paradise.”
Shown below are some of the flowers found in the garden.
