Our country is a predominantly Christian country. However, there is only a minority slice of our country that believe they can call themselves the “moral majority.” Their hubris is only the phrase that was made famous by ginormous creep Jerry Falwell Sr. and has always been a strong trigger for bullshit warning systems around the world. The “moral majority” will say anything to support the most immoral behaviors and ideas and statements, as long as they are allowed to have a taste of that power and wealth. Here are a few examples from just the past election cycle that exemplifies what exactly the “moral majority” and by extension the Republican Party “stand for.”
Tea party extraordinaire Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is under the gun these days for what he did and did not know about young men being sexually mistreated while he was the wrestling assistant at Ohio State University. With eight former players, some of which were Jordan supporters, coming out to tell stories that completely contradict Rep. Jordan’s “I was dumb as shit and didn’t know anything,” defense, Republicans aren’t running for the hills—in fact, they’re “unshaken,” according to the New York Times.
Speaker Paul D. Ryan of Wisconsin emerged on Wednesday as the latest prominent House Republican to defend Mr. Jordan. The majority leader, Kevin McCarthy of California, and the majority whip, Steve Scalise of Louisiana — both strong candidates to replace the departing Mr. Ryan — also backed him this week.
Here are some times in the last 20 or so months, when “morality” turned out to be a “flat circle.”
The morality of the “personal responsibility” party, the “moral majority” Christian right is non-existent. They are forced-birther, anti-child, anti-immigrant. They are not moral. In fact they are amoral, as they do not seem to have any real concern for morality, as their interest in it is so … dubious. There is a lot that’s been made about how Trump changed the Republican Party—that there are more moderate Republicans that are “aghast.” That may be true to some degree, but at this point, most of those elected “moderate” Republicans have made it clear: Donald Trump has only changed one thing about the Republican Party—he’s shown them that they don’t even have to pretend to be “moral” people to keep getting that “moral majority” vote—they just have to make a small place at the table for the “moral majority” leaders, the snake oil salesmen. You let them do the work of twisting God’s words into tithes.
