The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane, Washington, recently hosted a major exhibit: Luminous: Dale Chihuly and the Studio Glass Movement. The exhibit featured the works of 33 major artists. Shown below is some of the abstract glass sculpture which was displayed.
According to the display:
“Abstract forms began to appear in early 20th century paintings and sculpture, challenging the idea that art existed to represent the world around us. Artists in the studio glass movement built on this tradition by taking full advantage of the medium’s translucence and varied color that was not available in traditional sculptural materials like bronze or marble.”
