The Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington, is the largest independent, non-profit air and space museum in the world. Shown below are some of the helicopters which are on display.
Sikorsky HH-52A Seaguard
The Seaguard helicopter has a flying boat hull which allowed it to operate from land, water, or snow. It entered service with the U.S. Coast Guard in 1963 and served as a search and rescue (SAR) vehicle 1983. A total of 99 Seaguard helicopters were used by the Coast Guard.
Bell UH-1H Iroquois
The Bell UH-1H Iroquois, commonly known as the Huey, was used extensively during the Vietnam War. Over 7,000 of these helicopters were used during this conflict. The Museum’s Huey served as a troop carrier for B Company, 158th Aviation Battalion, known as the Lancers.
The Huey as a top speed and a cruising speed of 127 mph, a ceiling of 12,600 feet, and a range of 318 miles.
Boeing CH-47D Chinook
During the Vietnam War, the Boeing CH-47 Chinook was the Army’s workhouse helicopter.
The Chinook has a top speed of 196 mph, a cruising speed of 160 mph, a range of 245 miles, and a ceiling of 19,000 feet.
